Worried about knocking my babe into things while in sling

Hi Mamas,

So my baby is not quite 3 weeks old, and we are both still getting the hang of the Nojo sling I got as a hand-me-down. I'm pretty short (5'3"), and I've found that even with everything pulled tight and the baby as high up as I can get him, he is still at the perfect level to be knocked into my counter tops and washing machine if I am not really careful. Any other mamas have issues with this? I'm deathly afraid of not paying attention and hitting his little head on my tile kitchen counters.

You'll become more and more aware of your baby on you the more you wear him. In the ring sling, his bum should not be any lower than your belly button and his head should be close enough that you can reach down to kiss him.

I often found myself putting a shielding arm around ds in the sling - especially in public places 'cause I found other people seemed so oblivious to how much space we took up.

Like baturay says, you'll become more familiar as you wear your baby.

I have to admit in the beginning I accidentally bonked DD's head (I started when she was older than 4 months) a few times on things at home that I didn't clear. :

Like you I started shielding DD with my arm while out and about walking through anything that wasn't a wide open space. When she was smaller I'd strap her closer to the center of my body and up really high.

Now I'm pretty comfortable wearing her that I don't shield her as much, but she's also older now and I've found that now I have to worry about where her hands are. :P

I still shield her with my arm and double check where her arm and leg are before I go through narrow doorways, confined spaces and always with revolving/automatic doors. In really tight spaces I tuck her arms in, pull the sling up to her shoulders and pull her snug to me to keep those curious hands at bay.
