Curves - Page 9

well, i'm in kitchener, ON, and it costs me $39 per month (if you sign up for a year), or $49 per month (if you sign up on a month to month basis), plus the one time sign up fee.. this is where things vary alot.. when i signed up, the fee was $99, but there was a 50% off sale, so i only paid $49.. but i've seen other sales advertised too, you should call them up and ask. or call for an appointment for a free, introductory visit.. you learn how to do the circut, ask any questions you want, i think they even weigh/measure you then (if you want), and talk to you about your goals.

Ditto... and one year prepay costs $285 (I forget already!). Our Curves does different promotions during the year, recently if you brought in dog food, cat food etc for the local animal shelter they would give you 1/2 off the one time sign-up fee. Things like that.

Holy COw! That's awesome Kelly71! Good work!
I'm still happily going 3-4 times a week and doing all my kickboxing moves in between the machines. Last Friday I made a deal/challenge with one of the Curves girls that we would both focus on losing 1 kilo (2.2 lbs) this week. Today when I went in we were both all excited because even though we don't do our weigh-in until tomorrow, we are both below our week's goal!

Quick Question

Hi, all these wonderful posts have made me think about trying Curves but I do have a question. I have a bad knee which makes it difficult/painful to do deep knee bends, would I still be able to do the workout?

Thanks!

Jen

Absolutely . . some machines work arms only or abs only. You go at your own pace and determine your own intensity. You work it as hard as you want to. Good luck.

Curves, Shapes, Ladies Workout express???

Hello all, been reading the threads on Curves. I myself have been looking to work out w/ weights and am looking into this. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried either the Shapes or ladies workout express? Its a similar concept different franchise. I went to checkout a LWE, and was horrified by the cost 100 fee, + you commit to joing for 3 yrs!! $39month : or short term 3 months is 59$ month. This is as much as i was paying for a full gym! Anyway enought rambling, anyone have any comments??

Hmm, that seems expensive! I hadn't heard of the other gyms you mentioned.

It sounds like Curves is a much better deal financially, but I don't know if the other workouts are better or anything. I pay a year up front to renew and it works out to be $23/mo that way.

Joined this weekend.. how soon to see results

I finally made a decision after looking at Ladies Workout express, shapes & curves. Well I joined curves this weekend and I'm looking forward to working out w/ weights again. How long did it take all you ladies out there to see results if you go 3x wk?
I just joined a similar one called Contours Express. Here's hoping...

Some people lose weight quickly and others don't. If you work hard, you should see some results (ie. losing inches and maybe pounds) in the first month. You'll probably notice you start looking "toned" pretty quickly.

I'm very toned, but I have a big layer of fat to lose still!

WTG Kelly! That is Awesome!

I lost and maintained 10lb in 2004 (which looks more like 20lb on my petite frame!) and I'm hoping to lose 10 more lb if I can... since I'm still BF and planning to TTC this summer, it may or may not happen.

Either way, I will once again exercise at Curves through my whole pregnancy (last time I worked out at Curves less than 24 hours before my quick labor started. )!

Next month will be my 5th anniversary at Curves.

I joined last month! I've been good and have been going 4 times/week. I didn't see the results I had hoped for (lost 1 lb, lost 4 total inches, but gained inches in my problem areas - thighs and stomach). But like my DH said, "you are obviously healthier if you're exercising that much", so that made me feel better. I'm trying to be more health-focused rather than results. I think I need a change in attitude before I truly see results.

Now I'm working on the food aspect of things and expect that I'll be feeling better in the next month.

Glad to see some other MDC mamas that go to Curves!

Kelly, keep up the good work! That's awesome!

I'm going on my 2nd week at Curves. My goal is to go MWF nights when dh gets home. Ifeel really good. I havent had time to get measured there though. I get there at the last possible time you can work out at. ... Maybe next week or Sat I'll try to get that done.

What kind of music do they play at your Curves. Mine has the same tape. The donna summer songs are great but i'm getting bored of the other songs.
My Curves plays a huge variety of songs... I may go home with "she has fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes her T-Bird awaaaaay" or a KISS song stuck in my head. :LOL They play a bit of everything... 60s, 80s, Christian Rock, you name it. And thankfully, they will take requests (although on a first come, first serve basis of course)!

Sorry it took so long to reply.. I was avoiding this thread as I kinda 'fell off of the wagon' after a month

my results are weird... some measurments are going down.. some going up.. weight is going down. I just have to keep at it.

My chest size is getting bigger with each w+m .. lol.. I will have to get Bryce to eat LOTS before the next one

anyways I hope it's going well for you.. I love it.. it's so easy to just 'go to curves' rather than a gym with so much stuff that you don't know what to do.

Everytime I go in there they greet me with my name, ask how Bryce is doing.. they even sent me a Christmas card saying they missed me because I had stopped going..

I just wish they had better hours!
