Do u wash pump after every use?

I am starting to pump more to get DD use to taking a bottle. She goes back and forth with it and have only took it 3 times. I was wondering if right after I pump if I can just rinse it out immediantly and it would be fine. Or do I have to do the soap and water every time - I did that with DS and it was so time consuming.

Thx

When I was working and pumping, I always pumped 2-3x during my 8 hr workday. I did not wash or even rinse the pump parts between sessions, but I did stick everything in the refrigerator to limit the potential of bacterial growth. I only washed all my pump parts once a day.

I only pumped once a day at the most so at first I always washed & boiled the parts (overkill I know but I didn't trust our watersupply). Once we moved back to Canada I would just rinse it with hot water after most uses.

I did the same as jecombs - wash (and sterilise in the early months) only once a day.

I also pumped while working full-time and only washed the pump when I got home at night. I didn't even rinse the pump during the day, just kept it in the refrigerator (in a clean, insulated bag).

I rinsed mine after every use. I think I ran the parts through the dishwasher about once a week, but it might have been more often. I had a lot of spare cups, hoses, everything from pumping in the hospital, so I could rotate through the sets overnight.

When I pumped last time I pumped 3 times a day and never washed inbetween. I washed the pieces once at night.

I also just rinse. I figure that if breastmilk can sit out for 8-10 hours, then a washed phalange and bottle will be ok.

I pumped exclusively for my twins for 12 months and i would put the parts in the fridge in a ziploc 2x and then soap/water wash after a couple times in the fridge.

I pump up to 8 times a day at the moment. I usually put the parts in the refridgerator when I'm done, then every 2-3 sessions I wash and sterilise everything.

If I know I'll use it again in an hour or so, I'll leave it out. I never rinse anything between uses.

I rinse my manual pump with hot water after each use. I also immediatly freeze my BM in baggies too, it's just a routine now I guess.

: Only I didn't use the fridge, but a cooler with an ice pack in it.

When I was pumping at home, I'd rinse the pump parts between uses and then leave them at room temperature, or I'd stick them in the fridge unrinsed. I always washed with soap and water once a day. So, on days when I only pumped once, I'd wash it fully right after use.

Has anyone had a breast infection?? I'd rather give birth in the woods to 10 pound tripletts than have a breast infection!I seem to get one with each child but with my 3rd child I had to pump (he had open heart surgery) and ended up with 3 infections!

I'd say clean your parts - often

would you drink from a cup that you never washed? just rinsed or refridgerated?

I clean my parts after every use. I also have microwave steam bags for sterilizing, I do that about once a week now (I used to do it every night, but that was overkill)

Nope - never had one. I've pumped for 4 kiddos and several times a day while at work. I always rinse with hot water and let the parts air dry. I take everything home on Friday and run it through the dishwasher.

It's my understanding that breast infections (mastitis) are related to the breast not being emptied often enough and/or having blocked ducts. Mastits has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the breast/nipple area.

And would I drink from a cup that was never washed - no. But I often use the same cup all day and just wash it once.

I don't wash mine after each use but I do refrigerate. Also if I happen to leave in the fridge overnight or out on the counter to long if I smell them I can tell if they need to be washed.

This is really important if Mama has to pump during the night - it sucks enough just to have to pump at night, but having to get up and wash the pump parts would be absolutely awful! The Mama I know who pumped around the clock for her baby who couldn't latch just left the pump in a cooler by the bed while she slept between pumping times.

My LC said that it was fine to pop them in the fridge between pumpings, but that I shouldn't do it for longer than a day. If you are talking about a longer time span they should be washed. Having multiple sets of pump parts is an awesome gift.

I rinse every time I use it at work (generally only 1 time, but occasionally it's more). I wash every night by hand and then sterilize like... once a week I guess? I'm not a very scheduled person, so it's usually whenever my day off is, lol. Never had any infections or anything so far due to my laziness at dishes.
