Let me preface this with:
I was raised by the queen of microwave, frozen entree cooking. I grew up hating food, gagging when ever I tried to eat... anything really!
Then I met my husband, who began to slowly win me over with his ability to cook real food.
I have come leaps and bounds and in the last two years have learned to love food. I love to cook, bake and eat real food.
Anyways, I'm rummaging through my mother's kitchen cupboards looking for a whisk
, and I find...
The 1979 edition of joy of cooking!!!

:
Aside from Tomato Aspic (shudder) and a million other gelatin based recipes (creamed fish mold!?! WTF?) this book is a treasure. I'm in love.
I knew how to make a roux, but most of my cooking is throw together taste till it's yummy yk? I don't know any classical cooking because I was never shown it! Baking? Forget it! Last year I tried to do roll out cookies and failed miserably! I may be a foodie, but I am not a baker!
Anyways, I called my Mom up and she laughed at me and said she's never even opened it! She was given this book as a wedding gift.
I knew you ladies would understand my excitment!

I have a 1950 Fanny Farmer Cookbook, 1943 Joy of Cooking, and a 1953 Joy of Cooking. The recipes can be a bit odd but I love the nostalgic stuff. Plus they have wonderful recipes for basics and techniques.
