1 month old, not staying latched(again)

Ds is almost a month old now, for the last week I've been fighting him to stay latched more & more.

He's often fighting me just to latch/allow his mouth ON the nipple to begin with & then when he is latched he stays on for a few minutes(barely nurses), lets go & fusses & screams.

The problem is he's never been a strong sucker so I'm not emptying at all at the rate he's going, I've been having to pump just so I don't lose my supply. I'm really thinking about trying to pump exclusively at this point because he's miserable & so am I.

He does gag out of nowhere(not while nursing), he's done that since day 1. I asked the nurses at the hospital about reflux but they said it wasn't possible at his age. Idk if gagging is a symptom of anything but gagging..I've just never seen any of my other lo's do that before so I figured I'd throw it out there.

Any ideas on this latching thing? I just found a breastfeeding support group for my area that isn't LLL(our local one is not that helpful from my experiences) but they're not meeting until next week

Have you tried breast compressions when he first latches? Sometimes that gets the milk flowing and keeps them interested until youget a let down. I'm pretty sure there is video at www.drjacknewman.com
