How's the "new" Maya Wrap Lightly Padded Ring Sling?

For my 2 1/2 year old son I used the old style Maya Wrap alot. #2 will be here any day now and I can't find it for the life of me! I have a beco and a hotsling and wrap, but I want to get a ring sling too. Is the new padded style better? Does it stay on your shoulder? Should I just save some money and buy an unpadded one from a WAHM? Any recommendations?

i have a lightly padded one i bought last year and use it still w/ my 13 month old. i absolutely love it and can't find a single thing to complain about. it's very comfy and not bulky at all. (if that's your fear)

o, and no issues w/ it not staying on the shoulder.

Sooooo much better than the original shoulder that the Maya Wrap ring slings used to have!

I like the LP better than the old shoulder too. Much more comfy. It's a really good investment IME.

Oh my gosh, it's so much better. You can wear it on either shoulder, the pleats help it spread out very nicely, and the light padding on the shoulder is very comfy. In hindsight I'm still a little puzzled at the old Maya Wrap shoulder design -- it's just way harder to use than a sling should be.

Plus, the new ones all use aluminum rings instead of those heavy steel rings.

If you do decide to go the unpadded WAHM sling route, Jan at www.sleepingbaby.com does fantastic work and has extraordinarily reasonable prices. If you ever do come across your old Maya, you can even have her redo it using her shoulder pattern and aluminum rings, or you can order your own rings from www.slingrings.com and do it yourself based on the pattern that she publishes for free.

Thanks, I was really put off by the price of the new style. I paid $38 for my old one in 2007. There were things that bothered me about it, but it was always the carrier I would grab when I needed something quick and easy, and it got used the most in the first year. I think I will bite the bullet and shell out for the new design. It sounds like they fixed all the things I complained about.

I LOVE my padded one. I had the original one before and my shoulder and back would get sore after a while. I can wear the LP wrap for hours with no pain.

Yay, that's so good to hear. Maybe it's a good thing I lost my old one because I never could have justified buying the new style otherwise!
