Yep, rubber seal. I did check it and it seemed to be fine. I'm thinking it boiled dry because I was venting that whole time...it seems to me that more steam is released during venting than processing time...sound right to you? And then I did process two loads after that and had no prob with the water level. So if something was wrong that first time, it had been corrected after that.
