Dh and I both got our Associates in Fine Arts with Acting Emphasis... we met as theatre majors in college.

That's kind of all we've done with it...DH is military now and I'm a SAHM

cool! Do you ever do community theatre or anything? Are you passing along any remnients to the kids? Ever discuss plays or see shows together?

I have 4 children, all of whom share a great love for theatre along with me. My oldest has just kind of returned to her love after a number of really bad experiences. My son is combining an interest in business with his love for performing by hoping to manage a theatre company. My third loves musical theatre, and she and all her siblings just completed Disney's Aladdin, Jr. with a local community theatre group--she was Jasmine, her brother was the Sultan, the youngest was Abu and the oldest was the acting coach. Theatre is a big topic of conversation here, and we are considering producing our first show. Just an introduction!

sounds good Cajun...and what is YOUR background in the theatre?

I remember when I was a kid, getting all the neighborhood kids together and planning out how we would open up our own show...it never happened, but it was great fun planning out how we would make out of raw materials and where we would put a stage, what we would charge for tickets and how we would make them, where people would sit, picking and transcribing a script, casting the show, etc...

I was in plays in school--elementary and college (our high school didn't have a drama department). Then I didn't do much after that, until my kids got bigger. When they started doing shows, I started working backstage. I've only been onstage once, and that was as the stepmother in "Cinderella". I love being backstage, and I'm going to work with props and as assistant stage manager for a big musical in a local community theatre. Two of my kids will probably be in the show, and maybe the youngest as well, depending on what kind of chorus the director wants.

I LOVE "Tech" and am trying to instill a love of technical theatre in the kids. Taking opportunities to show them slideboards and such...

We haven't had much contact with the theatre lately. But we do plan on having the arts play a role in our family's life. If our children want to be involved we'll support that 100%!

Anybody involved in a show right now? Or planning for one?

I would love to be part of the tribe.Theatre is not a part of my life right now but was a huge part of my past. I acted all through grade school and college. Late in college I started directing. Post college I did a little directing and acting. My first job out side of college was as company manager for an equity acting company. I also did some casting for them. Later I worked FOH for Emerson College in thier theatre, which was also used as a road house for touring dance companies and Opera's. I have done a little of everything and love all tech and creative aspects. Right now I am a SAHM to DS age 4 and DD age 2. I would love to talk shop while waiting to go back to the theatre. When they are older I hope to get involved in community theater.

I used to be involved in theatre. Started when I was 9. Was in one commercial and a few advertisements (for local places).

Won some awards.

Took some classes. Did some improv.

Then, life changed and I lost touch with that side of myself.
My son LOVES performing arts. He loves to act and sing.

I've done it all at some point or another, acting, directing, writing (and it was performed, a children's musical!!), set design and construction, props, costuming. Okay, so no tech. The last few years has been exclusively costuming. A little over a month and a half ago, we wrapped up on The Producers. I am a professional designer and seamstress, but theater work is so different than weddings!

so fun. Marily, I am not far from you (in Israel) and that is great that you are staying at home with your baby. I found I couldn't get back to work in the theatre until dh was night weaned...and even then i was coming home at 3am to nurse him before I could "unwind" and go to sleep. I've also been commuting 3 hours each way to get to some paid work. So that's been hard.

Right now I'm working on my own company. I have a seed company of 10 actors. I've had to fire one, and bring on another (in the process of that right now) as well as replace myself with another actress, who is pregnant with her second baby. I also have an actor whose wife is pg with their first right now. And I'm pg with our third, so it's pretty nutty. Trying to make theatre a family friendly affair here in the Middle East.

Glad we are all here...

What a great group! I started my musical theater journey in college. Just knew it's what I had to do! Worked for Disney in CA for years. It was a blast! Probably my favorite job ever. Did a cruise ship, not really as fun but the traveling aspect was great. Went back to Disney. Did a national tour of a Broadway prod. for a year. Went back to Disney. Then decided I wanted to stop being a 'cartoon' and be myself. So I joined a band and did that for 7 years. Had my 2 kiddos. Now that they're getting older (10 & 6) I'm SO itching to get back into the theater thing. Both of them take after me. They both sing, but my DS wants to play football! LOL DD told me the other day she HAS to be on stage!

I would like to join this tribe too. I used to write and perform solo work....one woman shows and shorter pieces as part of a theater group I was in. The last show I wrote and performed was a few years ago... before I had my last child. I really miss that part of myself.

I have been doing theatre since high school, acting & tech. I have started asst. directing some children's theatre. Currently on hiatus to be SAHM. We love going to shows. Luckily I am in a big city and have a wide range of options, including an outdoor theatre and concert hall we love to take my DS too, as well as many other venues.
