Preschooler has vaginitis - need natural barrier cream

I have always been sensitive "down there." When we switched to all natural everything several years ago my body must have gone through some kind of adjuctment period or something because I had all kinds of burning and sensitivity down there. I switched soap several times until I found Dr Bronners Baby mild. Sadly, though, I was using the other organic/natural soaps on the kiddos. I figured I was just ultra sensitive, and it didnt bother my skin anywhere else. DS and DH were fine, but now DD has all kinds of burning issues. She dos not have ayeast infection, nor a UTI, so it is just irritation and we need a barrier cream. She already wears loose fitting organic cotton undies, so, any thoughts? She was hysterical last night so I ran out and got Desitin, but I dont want to use that on her sensitive parts again. I did just read that she should not be washing the area with soap - now they tell me! She wont take baths, she only showers, so I think the culprit may be that she washes too vigorously down there. She is extremely hygenic (almost to a fault), so I know (I have seen) her pat herself gently but many times in a row to be sure her area is clean and dry. Okay, this is long, but I feel so badly for her. I have been there and it is hard as an adult to deal with sometimes. Poor girl. Help will be greatly appreciated.

fwiw, my dd never had any yoni issues, UNTIL, at 2 1/2 yo, she got lyme disease and took antibiotics for the first time. :

a whole bunch of really powerful probiotics did the trick. i mixed capsules in ice cream/smoothies for her.

i also used weleda calendula cream on her yoni to help the itching in the meantime.

hth!

Thanks. No antiboitics here for her, but they do it to me everytime! I have been loading her up on yogurt and keifer smoothies. I'll have to look into the weleda cream. Thanks!

oh good! anti's are the devil! i mean, of course, they have their place, but they do almost as much damage as they help!

i've seen weleda at target, longs, raleys and of course pretty much every health food store, except trader joes. you can also order it online from about 1,000 places.

dd has very, very sensitive skin and chemical sensitivity, and the weleda she can use.

i hope your girl starts feeling better!

here another vote for weleda - but here we use the wound care! i am not sure where to get it since i bought it online but it helps!! my dd has any other day irritation in and around her virgina so i'll just apply a litte cream over night and its gone! all natural :

You also need to teach her to just gently rinse out that area. She's not naturally 'dirty' down there, so there's no need for soaps or scrubbing. Just thinking about it has me :

Perhaps rinsing with lukewarm water will help, over time?

I would definitely work on teaching her to avoid the soap in that area. Cleaning gently with water is enough. Your vagina is self cleaning, after all. I just clean in between the folds with a finger and water from the shower. That's enough to be clean and fresh. It's really important to avoid anything that may upset the natural bacteria balance in that area. I've never been able to use soaps - of any kind - in said area.

Weleda is a good brand, though. But, I still wouldn't use it to clean the vulva area.

I'd try some baking soda baths for now, to help with irritation. And then just avoiding soap for future use.

i (mostly) agree with senior!!

we only use weleda if really needed, but we also just wash with pure water!! no soap needed : (we generally never use soap on the body, except on dirty feet )
