I have a wooden highchair from the 40s that we've been using with DD. Structurally, it's great, but the finish is very worn. I'd like to refinish or paint it but am not sure how to go about it.

- I don't think I could disassemble it and then reassemble it without having to replace some of the hardware, and I don't know where I'd find it
- The finish is worn enough that it seems like I could get away with just sanding -- would that work?
- I'm not sure what to do on the tray that would be foodsafe and hold up under daily washing
- Oh yeah, I'm pregnant, so it would be best for this to be nontoxic/safe for me so I don't have to rope DH into doing all the work
- Finally, I need to replace the safety buckle -- any ideas where I can get those?
