Where can I donate knit infant hats?

DD1 has been having a lot of fun knitting baby hats. It all started when she made one for the new baby next door and it came out too small. I suggested she donate that one and make another, larger hat for the baby gift.

Since then she's made another newborn sized hat, and is working on a 3rd (for a total of 4 hats, including one for the neighbor.)

I know there are places to donate hats for newborns and preemies. But I don't know how to find one. A quick websearch led me to lots of free knit and crochet patterns, but no places that accept the donations.

you could check with local hospital nurseries, NICUs, local domestic abuse shelters, or homeless shelters - all are usually places that accept hat donations very happily

try the maternity ward of your local hospital. All the hats are ours are handknit donations, the birthcenter too

I crochet for a group called All Crafts for Charity. We donate to a different charity ( mostly for babies) each month. If you would like the link, PM me and I'll be thrilled to supply it to you!

Definitely call your hospital to see if they'll take them. When my last DS was born, his head was too big for the regular hospital hats and a nurse gave us a pretty knit one that she said was donated. SO, I imagine they would appreciate hats that are smaller or larger than their standard ones, for preemies or bigger babies.

The hospital I work at accepts baby hat donations both in the NICU and in the pregnancy loss office (for stillborn babies).

your local yarn shop should be able to point you in the correct direction

Soule Mama, aka Amanda Soule is involved in a charity that donates hats to infants. There is information and the pattern linked on her blog.

Do they take things other than hats? I've got sweaters and blankets that I might donate, too.
