So who's having their first?

It seems like so many people on MDC have kids already. It makes sense, since a person may be more likely to find MDC if they have kids.

But who among us has no kids yet?

Obviously, this will be my first (and my first pregnancy), and that's why I'm posting this question

Me!

I'm a little nervous about the whole thing - pregnancy, parenting, etc. I have moments where I question myself, as in "what did I get myself into? am I REALLY ready for this?". lol I'm sure that's all pretty normal though.

It's still so early so we haven't told anyone yet, but I'm afraid that morning sickness will kick in and I'll be "outed" (I work in a hospital, with lots of smart people who can spot pregnancy symptoms from a mile away!). So far I've only had mild nausea in the morning, so hopefully it continues to stay that way.

This is my first as well! I'm in the 5th week and super nervous that if I move the wrong way, sit the wrong way, bend the wrong way, lay the wrong way, etc...I'll miscarry. Do any of you have any reassurance about this? Are there just a few of us with our first? I can't remember if there was a question on the introduction page if this was our first pregnancy.

I'm pregnant with my (our) first too. : I'm really excited about it. Like SUPER excited. I can't sleep at night due to the excitement, lol. I'm hoping the excitement goes down just a little bit, as I just feel hyper all the time. My dp can't sleep at night as I keep him up with my own excitement!

I'm, strangely, not experiencing any nervousness about the pregnancy. About parenting - yes! But, in terms of the pregnancy ... while I know I'm pregnant, am excited about it ... it also doesn't seem real, as I'm not showing yet. Nor do I feel any different. Physically I feel pretty much the same, and it's strange to think that there's a whole human growing inside of me.

Oh yes! I sneeze and instinctively grab my stomach. I cough and worry that I've dislodged that little sesame seed.

bfp 8/5, 4wks, 4days along

everybody, it's our first too.

rhiorion, fun idea for a thread! i like having the experienced pregos and moms around for "real" advice and wisdom, but it's fun to have a place for us firsties to kick around too.

heehee, rhiorion, i saw your post in the lurkers thread, but didn't want to derail them. i LOVE the whole idea of that thread, and it makes me giggle. anyway, YES, i am in NC and have posted in the tribe over there a little. i get confused as to where i've seen people b/n TTC and there and here.

So I posted a few days ago about anxiety of miscarrying. Weird question: My cats have this tendency to jump on my lap or stomach when I lay on the couch. Will it hurt the baby or cause me to miscarry?

Nope. My two kids are not exactly gentle with me (and my DD1 was not at all gentle when i was hugely pregnant with her sister) and it was fine. The concern later in pregnancy is that with enough force you can detach the placenta, but that is generally only a possibility in a bad car accident or a huge fall. Remember: in many places, and for much of history, women have to work hard every day of their pregnancies, and our bodies have adapted to this. Kitties shouldn't be a problem at all.

This will be our first living child if this pregnancy sticks (, but I've had two first trimester losses before this little bean, one after seeing a healthy heartbeat.

So I'm on pins and needles here...thrilled and overjoyed about being pregnant again (we also struggle with infertility problems) but so scared about possibly losing this little bean I already love so much.

Good to see other first-time moms...I'm sure there are more of us.

I'm pregnant for the first time (and I'm "advanced maternal age" at 36). DH and I have been together for 15 years, so we know that our parents are going to freak out with happiness when we tell them. This will be the first grandbaby on either side. I have a feeling I'll be fighting for time to hold my own baby once the kid is born.

What got me through my first pregnancy is thinking about women who did this long ago. They didn't get to put there feet up and rest. They were doing laundry by hand, cooking all day, manual labor, and caring for kids, so I know our bodies were made to protect these little ones in us. I still wouldn't go lift any heavy boxes or anything but just try your best to think positive. It does help. Also, when I feel twinges and pinches I just picture all the construction going on in there preparing to carry this baby for 9 months. Lots to do in there.

I'm in a similar boat... this is not my first pregnancy (I had four 1st trimester losses last year), but if all goes well this will be our first baby! : The challenge of the next 6 weeks is definitely how to keep SANE!

But, I don't want to worry the other first timers out there... the chances of what happened to me are something like 0.15%. Rare, and nothing you should be worrying about. And now that I've read practically EVERY single book, article, and research paper in the world about miscarriage I can also assure you that virtually nothing you can do will cause one! (They are almost always chromosomal errors and will or won't happen regardless of what you do.) So rest assured, those little babes are protected in their own little comfy world. They'll take all the nutrients they need from you, their environment will absorb all of the shock of kitty paws and weird stretches, if you do lot's of exercise the placenta will even grow bigger to accommodate the extra oxygen needs. It's quite a magical and resilient environment in there!

^ this! great post, shantiani!

That was a great post shantiani!

This is #1 for us, too. My DH and I are really excited for this portion of our lives, but I think I'm nervous enough for the both of us. I'm getting progressively better at trusting my body and the little bean inside of it though.

It's nice to see so many first timers on here. I have a feeling this is going to be quite the adventure.

This is my first too. I am an only child and do not have any friends with babies, so even though I am 30, I feel like a pregnant teenager learning everything for the first time.
