ridiculously rude dr

Thread Starter
So I'm 40 weeks 3 days today, and had to go in for a biophysical profile and non-stress test. I go to an ob/gyn practice where I see whichever Dr. is available- most of them are great, and until today I had no issues with this particular Dr.- but today, he walked into the exam room and said, "I thought you would have delivered by now!" I said, "Yeah, I guess baby's just not ready yet." His reply stunned me: "Or maybe SOMEONE has a crappy uterus!"
: Yeah, just what I want to hear when I'm postdates and have just been through two hours of testing lying on my back completely uncomfortable and starving.
I now have to return on Friday for another round of the same tests and at that point we'll discuss surgery- I am attempting a VBAC and they will not induce VBAC moms at all. It's either go into labor on my own by then or schedule a repeat c/s and I'm totally freaking out- I really did NOT want another c/s.

Wow, that was really rude! Some people just don't think before they speak. I'm sorry he said that to you.

you don't have to consent to surgery if your baby is doing fine!! just don't show up if they schedule you for one, or refuse to schedule. i'm surprised they're making you do those tests at not even 41 weeks. have you been in touch with other southest mi vbac moms? it's not too late to switch practices even, if that is an option you have available/would consider...

Wow, that's awful......:

I'd have told him that my uterus is fine, as it's grown a baby for more than 40 weeks, but the medical care is pretty crummy!

He is lucky it wasn't me I would have probably hauled off and punched him in the nose!!!! And if he complained his nose was broke or bleeding, I would have told him "it was because he had a crappy nose!" Sorry that is just beyond unprofessional.

I agree with the others don't let them push you if babe is doing well, and maybe try DTD to see if that helps you some.

sorry he was such a jerk!

WOW... just wow!!

I am never one to cause much of a stink, but I think you really should make a formal complaint to the office. I know that doctors aren't always the best with bedside manners, but that comment goes far past just not being sincere or sensitive. I still can't believe he said that.

Not that it matters, but I am sure your uterus is doing such a good job, that the baby doesn't want to leave.

My jaw actually dropped when I read that. That's some nerve.

That Dr needs a filter! Think, then speak - arrgh!!

I am sorry but if all the test show the baby is fine, I would wait for labor. Noone can force you into a c-section. Good luck!

Take care!

Rude dude. If you haven't had trouble with him before, maybe he just had a momentary lapse in judgement???

I hope baby comes in his/her own time - when he/she is good and ready! And sooner, rather than later, for your own sanity!

OMGoodness! I can't believe he would say that to you! I'm with Tankgirl....I like her crappy nose response. : You could always blame it on the "crapy preggo hormones"!!! Hahaha!!!

DDC crashing to say :

That is un-freaking-believable. Wow.

Maybe SOMEONE is a crappy doctor...

and how would he have felt if you said something equally as rude... I can think of a few respondses...

absolutely INSANE, RUDE....

sorry sooo sorry

Wow, guess I'm the odd one out...but if he said that to me I probably would have cracked up. Some people are just very sarcastic and sometimes you just have to have the same dry sense of humor to appreciate that...however, making that comment to a hormonal, pregnant woman is probably not the best idea if you don't know how she's going to take it.

Wow, I can't believe he said that...or, maybe you just have a crappy dr! Sorry! I hope you go into labor soon!

What? WHAT?:

I'm so sorry he said that to you Mama! He's just trying to plant those seeds of doubt in your head. Really. Your uterus is fabulous

with my ds, i was 40w3d and doc scheduled me for induction because he said "my cervix was uncooperative". i went into labor while waiting for the nurses to come in and induce me. i am convinced my cervix heard him and wanted to shut him up!

I think among very good friends and family who know each others humor and sensitivities the doctor's comment might be ok. Dh and I and my bro and his wife have that kind of humor with each other. However, in a professional capacity at my job (am not a doctor) I would never let out that side of me.

I think the comment is incredibly rude. I would complain.
