Any current Couch25k-ers? - Page 2

I am psyched for all of you!! I did this program a few years ago and loved it! I was running for about a year and a half, when I started having problems with shin splints that wouldn't go away. I was running in the wrong shoes, I had put on some extra weight, and I was not being consistent enough in my running.

I hope to do this program again soon! I haven't had any pain for a few months, and I am just working on losing a few lbs before I start again. I've only got 10 more to go!

Another newbie here!

I just did W1D1 and feel terrific! I have been going on the eliptical for the past few weeks, and doing the 13 flights of stairs up to our apartment. I was afraid to start running, but it felt so terrific - I'm glad I had a few weeks of other exercise to build up my stamina though.

I am going to keep doing the program until I get pregnant, and then probably switch to something more relaxed. (We just had a miscarriage last month, and I every day I change my mind about whether it would be good or not to get pg again )

Thanks ladies! I think I need to go to a pediatrist and make sure my feet are supported correctly (I've had hip and back problems before running). And I need a new pair of running shoes.

I've found that I can't get up in the morning. This is after years and years of trying ot be THAT person and to get it out of the way. I've only felt more tired and drained as a result. I don't like it , because exercising in the evening is harder to work out, but that's the way it is for me now. I hope mornings work for you, Pogo.

Everyone sounds like they are doing well!

Welcome Photo!

I'm in! I am starting over today. I was up to the middle of week 5 when I sprained my ankle. I want to do it outside this time [last time I was using a treadmill]. I'm going out right now for W1D1!
pogo, wow, those are late nights! i've never been an early bird. i get up around 9 every morning.

PJM, sorry for your loss. (((hugs))) i just lost my baby in may. i'm also wondering just how much running i'll do after i get pg again in a few months.

coleslaw, i can't be THAT person either.

academama, i wish you great success this time! fwiw, i canNOT run on a treadmill. something about it, does weird things to my ankles but i'm just fine outside.

heading out for our 2 mile walk now. can't wait to start week2 on sunday!!!

I did my w1d2 yesterday... wow was it hard. I really want to go and run outside but for right now im just running on my treadmill. I am excited to do my day 3 tomorrow, I am kinda scared though because I don't think im ready for week 2. As far as mornings working for me I would so much rather work out at night but with my son its just not possible I am hoping as he gets older he will learn to trust his daddy more and I am hoping my husband will learn better to take care of him but right now all he wants is to be with me... But I just ordered a seat so that on my days not running we as a family can go on bike rides so that will be good. Have a great day everyone!!

Well I was all excited to start today and my ipod quite AND it started pouring down rain. double whammy!!! : Tomorrow it is, ipod or not. If it's still raining I'm going to try to sneak off to the gym when dh gets off work.

GL everyone! We can do it!

Is there anywhere I can get a list of the intervals without the podcasts?

Edit: nevermind, I found it.

pogo, i did c25k 4 years ago and i was feeling scared too that i couldn't move up to the next week. are you running slow enough? every time i think i can't run anymore, i just slooooow down. and there's no shame in repeating a week if you need to. actually, my first time of doing this, c25k was too hard. i had to do my own revving up program of running only 30 seconds at a time. i couldn't manage the 60.

Pookie, how's it going? still raining?

i started week 2 yesterday and it felt great. i cringed every time my watch told me it was time to run when i was reaching a large uphill. but i did it!

today will be a 2 mi walk and tomorrow i will run again!

what are these podcasts everyone is talking about?

I am starting for real tomorrow! ha ha. We just got back from a trip and my kids have been CRAZY needy, but we're settling back in. I am getting up at 8 tomorrow to run before my husband goes to work. I'll let you know how it goes! I plan to run every day, not every other, and just do each week's workouts more than 3 times. [I'll be taking one weekend day off, maybe also a midweek day that will be a walk instead.]

How is everyone doing? After trying on Saturday and Monday every time i start to run my knee feels like its going to blow-out and it hurts so I think I am doing something wrong Today it hurts just to bend it. So I am going to wait for the pain to stop before trying again. But on a happier note I hope everyone has a great week! Happy running everyone!

W1 here! It was beautiful this morning and I ran at the cemetery down the street--two other ladies were there walking [I have seen them before] and they said hello and remarked on my new hair color. ha ha. Strange sort of mini-friendship.
pogo, that just sucks. i'm sorry. i hate getting sidelined with an injury.

academama, good for you! i'd like to hear how running daily works for you. i toyed with the idea too but then decided to give myself a break after the pregnancy. i hope to work up to daily running too when i finish the program.

i'm getting ready to head out the door for w1d2!!!

It did finally stop raining AND my ipod started working again : Crazy! So I started the G28K Monday.....and it kicked my butt but I managed to pull through. I'm signed up for a 5K a week from Saturday but I'm not as worried about it as I was. Thanks for all the encouragement!

calmom keep it up, your doing great!

pogo I hope you get to feeling better soon

academama I love running through the cemetery too. It is very peaceful and it does seem like you have a tendency to run (no pun intended) into the same people over and over again so it is an odd kind of passing friendship thing I love it though.

I've been trying to run every other day and on the off days do some hand weights to work my upper body or sit ups or something. I would much rather just run every day but I'm so afraid of injuring myself.

I was wondering what everyone else's schedule is?
PookieMom, keep us posted on how the G28K goes--I am curious about that! I'm sure you'll do great in your 5k.

Pogo, I'm sorry about your knee. It is so frustrating to be injured!

I am aiming for a 5k in October. That gives me just time to get through couch-5k if I take it at exactly the recommended pace. I may be able to move a little faster here at the beginning, though, because I was up to week 5 when I hurt my ankle...so I am really building back up from that, not so much from "couch." On the other hand, I am running outdoors now and finding it a lot more taxing than the treadmill.

Congrats on week 2, calmom! [Your screen name cracks me up because Cal is my mom's name!]

i want to hear about the G28k also. i'm glad to hear there are other programs for later on. i got myself up to 10 miles after starting with c25k years ago but i always wished that i had a program to follow. i tend to push too hard too fast and then burn out.

academama, LOL about your mom. so glad you're up and running (pun intended) again. it's so interesting to me how different people feel indoor or outdoor is easier. i still cannot handle the treadmill. it feel so hard to me!

today is a walking day for me but i think tomorrow starts week 3! my mizuno street shoes are so worn out so i've been wearing my trail shoes instead. hope to find some more mizunos on ebay today. love new shoes!

I made the decision a couple of days to go that I will run a marathon next year. 190 lb, three kids in barely under 3 years, me that hasn't seen a weight that wasn't labeled obese in almost ten years...... I started yesterday on my own and just got done looking at the C25K website before coming over to MDC. I am so excited! I have a name for what I've been doing - fartlek. I've done 2.5 miles the last two night averaging a 16:00 pace.... not too bad for someone as out of shape as I am IMO I'm not starting the program quite yet till I get into better shape, kinda doing my own thing but will definatly be borrowing from it till then

Annette, photo, calmom - I'm sorry for your losses

Hi everyone,

I just found this thread. I completed Week 1 today after years of inactivity. I'm 5'6" and 135 lbs and while this probably looks just fine, my ideal weight is 10 pounds less, and I really want to be in better shape so that I can do longer hikes with my friends, run to catch the bus without being so winded, and be able to do more activity with the children I nanny. I have asthma, so this type of slow build up aerobic exercise is good to strengthen my breathing without aggravating it too much.

Also, I am going to TTC next year and I want to get into good physical shape before the pregnancy so that it's easy to maintain during it.

I am using the PodRunner musical podcast. It's slow and fast techno/bass/dub type music with a sound to let you know when to switch. It really keeps me going without any talking.

I have really crappy sneakers but I'm running on a track so it's soft on my body, and my new sneakers, which I got on eBay for $30 (about $90 in the store) are coming on Tuesday, the day I start Week 2.

ETA: The days after Week1Day1, my thighs were burning so much but I've stretched well before the next two days and didn't have any burning the day afterwards.

I went to the park to run today [usually it's too far away because I get up to run before my family is up--I don't want to drive 15 minutes to get there!]. It was nice. I ran/walked twice around the lake there, doing the week 2 workout. Very peaceful.

Welcome, OceansEve and PikkuMyy! I am far more....uh....rounded than that, OceansEve, but I totally understand how you feel! I set my goal to run a 5k in October and I'll revisit after that. I would love to do a half-marathon [don't think I'm likely to get into it enough to do a full].

oooh new people! Welcome! : I start week 2 tomorrow. I'm so excited to be running again. My mood is even better it seems. Week 2 is jog 8 minutes walk 1minute and repeat 4 times. I'm ready.
