I don't think it's being misinterpreted. I honestly think some Australians have a hard time recognising what is really going on. It's as if true racism only happens somewhere else. The widespread myth in Australia(imo) seems to be that because it's 'true" (gah) and Aussies are 'blunt' that somehow it's well-meant and no one's offended. Talk to some of the people who bear the brunt of those racial terms. Some of them really
don't like it.
I agree there is lots of interracial marriage though, same as in Canada and the US.
