4.5 DD lost latch

Thread Starter

This is the second pregnancy that she nursed through. I am now 25 weeks and we realised this morning that she hadn't nursed in at least a month.
She tried so hard to nurse but couldn't seem to figure out what she was doing. She just kindof put her mouth over my nipple and sucked a bit but gave up after a minute.
I discouraged her nursing for any length of time after my milk dried up as I was having a hard enough time keeping sane with the 24/7 nursing of DS 21/2

I would like to help her but I wouldn't know how. Am I just supposed to take this as the natural progression of things?
I asked DD how she felt about it and she said she was sad.

Anyone BTDT?

I don't know if my situation will help yours but... DD1 was three when DD2 was born. Somewhere in the middle of my pg my milk dried up and DD1 lost interest in nursing. I was sure that when the baby arrived she'd jump right back into it but it actually took a few months before she really showed interest again.

When she did finally want to nurse when she latched on it HURT. I think she had forgotten how to do it but she resorted to full blast sucking to get what she wanted. We talked a lot about it and I told her every time it hurt. And eventually she got the hang of it again and now, at four years old, is still very much into it.

I know your DD is a little older, but I wouldn't give up. As long as you and she are both interested in giving it a chance then I'd let her try a few more times. Just guide her a little if it hurts you or if you can see how she's doing it differently than she used to.

Sorry I can't offer more specific advice!
