Fast shawl for dying grandmother? Or something along those lines?

My grandmother is not well and I would like to make her something while she is in the hospital and hopefully back in the nursing home. I was thinking a shawl would be nice, but I am such a slow knitter than unless it was on HUGE needles and really simple, I'm not sure I could pull it off. I'm not even opposed to using acrylic for this project.

I can't think of any examples of soft and cozy sewn shawls, but maybe you can? I always have a little trouble sewing knits, but I'll try it if the right project comes along.

Or maybe a shawl isn't even the right thing? What would you make your grandmother who is in a hospital hundreds of miles away and dealing with dementia.

Sorry about your grandma!

http://www.cosmicpluto.com/blog/patterns-by-laura-chau/ has a couple shawls that look like they'll go by quickly.

You could always build yourself a triloom. That's pretty fast, apparently.
