Awesome deal at Schwan's (free food!) - Page 2

Sorry... the Schwan's guys, the milk delivery guys and the "I have a freezer of frozen meats in the back of my dirty truck" guys are rather "predatory".

I did that, should come tomorrow. Hopefully I like their food, I would love to get ice cream delivered. Here it is just too hot for the ice cream to make it all the way home without melting first.

I have to admit I was a little shocked at the prices.. but this deal is probably a smart move on their part. People will get to try something for free, feel good about the deal, & then will be more inclined (maybe?) to order from them in the future.
I hope our driver isn't too pushy.

Nothing is ever truly free. You are now in a database. I wonder if they ever sell their customer lists? I wonder how many new customers will be "bugged/hounded" by the salesmen/drivers?
I have never had any issues with Schwans, I started using them 4 years ago right after I had my dd and needed food. They still come by every other week though I rarely buy anything, they are low key and they know that 9 out of 10 times I am not buying anything.

Schwans food is decent in a pinch if you are not a stickler for 100% natural organic stuff. I will say that most of their dessert and appetizer stuff is really good.

I too have never felt like the Schwann's guy is predatory. He is super nice, low key, and the one time I ordered from him, he was happy to leave a catalog, and he stopped by one more time and then simply said to give him a call if I wanted him to stop by again.

I love that you can use EBT, although I do have to pay a $1 delivery charge not payable by EBT. The prices are insane, but this is a nice little treat, and I have ordered in the past, so once in a while isn't too bad.

Awesome -- thanks! I just ordered their fiesta lime chicken for two for $9.99 (well, free for me ) -- can't wait to try it! It has really high reviews!

Thanks for sharing. I just ordered a gallon of ice cream. We used to order when we lived up north but have not ordered since we moved. We love ice cream!

Thanks!!! Im getting 8 burgers for free!!!

I got my free frozen pizza yesterday - that's a free dinner!! I've never ordered from Schwann's before, but I know MIL does all the time and she's happy with them. There's not a whole lot in the catalog I'm interested in buying - and OMG the prices of some of their food!!! - but I saw a few reasonably-priced items it might be nice to order once in a while.

Yeah, some of that stuff is freaking HIGH! I saw some chicken products that were $10/lb! That's insane ... I could never pay that kind of money for CHICKEN, lol.

There are some moderately priced things so I may have to take a peek at the catalog when the guy shows up to deliver my free grub, lol.

Some of their food is expensive but it is already cooked and it's still cheaper than eating out. I haven't had it since I was a kid but I remember loving their pizzas. I ordered the chicken nuggets too. I might check out the catalog and try a few more things when the food is delivered. I usually hate prepackaged freezer food, but I also hate cooking. I'm hoping this can be our dinner solution once or twice a week.

I ordered a frozen pizza. LOL. Weird.

I think it is kind of suspicious that they deliver to my area because I searched and searched for something like this when I was pregnant and didn't find it.

Hmmm. I know some of you say it really exists, but I have a strong feeling I just gave a bunch of personal info to some scam!

Oh well, I'm moving in a couple of months!

I can't wait to see if it really comes!

I've never had any experience with Schwan's guys being predatory. I was using them when dd was first born and when I wanted to quit there was no hassle at all and they never called or bothered me.

Schwan definitely exists and has for a long long time. I see their truck quite often in my area. I haven't ordered from them, til now, but they are most certainly not a scam./

Yeah that.

They are a legitimate company with a long history. Do you ever watch The Apprentice? They were one of the companies featured this past season. The contestants developed a gluten free meal.

hee hee

Not an apprentice watcher!

I believe you all though!

So weird. I've never seen the trucks.

Anyway, OP, thanks for posting this! I will probably be using their services again in the future. I have to see if they deliver to my new place.

Some of the food is definitely expensive, but as you say, it's cheaper than eating out and most of it is precooked.

I order 3 of their specialty pizzas every two weeks to put in my deep freeze, knowing that at $7.99 each, plus the $3 discount for ordering 3, I'm saving money compared to ordering from Pizza Hut on those "oh cr@p!" nights when it's 7 p.m., everyone is suddenly starving, and we have no plans for dinner.

Some drivers can be pushy, but then, you'll find people like that in any sales position. I recently "lost" my old driver (who happened to be amazing, completely non-pushy) to some health issues that prevented him from working anymore, so I'm now in the process of breaking in a new one. Literally...he's new to the company, and reminds me of a door to door salesman from some 1950's movie. *sigh* Most aren't interested in pushing too much, since word of mouth is a potentially big thing for their business.

Just a random question for those who've been Schwan's customers in the past...have you ever seen a female Schwan's driver?

Thanks for posting this!

I have been tempted to order from Scwann's in the past but always thought it too expensive to even give a try. I just ordered the Fiesta Lime Chicken Meal for Two, the corn dogs, and the SPECIAL RECIPEā„¢ Four Cheese Pizza. My order total is 12.98. I'm excited :

You know, it's funny but I think I vaguely heard of this place before...long ago I used to tutor a math student and I was at her house and I think they delivered then while I was there.

Incidentally, hey, I'll try it now. It's never a bad idea to have one of these as an option just in case. I probably could have used something like this after we had our babies, etc. Maybe if we have a #5. Which strangely enough looks like a possibility since DH seems to tease about the idea!

All that being said, I bought the gallon of ice cream. Last month we bought a half gallon of Blue Bell Ice cream with coupons, and I still think it was pretty expensive. If it's good quality $9.99 for a gallon is find by me. Of course, this time it might taste better because it's free!

OMG don't mention Blue Bell! I'm from Texas and live in NY where they've never heard of it
