5 minute nursing

I have a 6 week old and during our night feedings my DD nurses for 3-5 minutes then falls into a deep sleep. She slept for 5 hours then 3 1/2 hours. I"m not complaining, I'm actually in shock since my older DD nursed every 1 1/2 for her first year of life. During the day she nurses more frequently and sometimes for up to 10 minutes... could she be getting all that she needs?
She has at least 6 wet diapers and at least 2-4 poop diapers.....
what do you know???
thanks.

If she is gaining weight as expected (5-7 oz a week), pooping and peeing well (as she is) then you know that she's getting enough milk! Way to go, Mama! That's just her nursing pattern.

My DD never nursed more than 5 minutes after the first couple weeks. Never on more than one side, either - well, I guess that stuff changed when she was a toddler and was comfort nursing if she got hurt or something, but as a baby she was a quick nurser

That sounds like my DS, too. He never nurses very long at night and only nurses maybe 2-3 times even from very early on. He seems to be really proficient at night nursing and gets a lot very quickly, maybe because he is more relaxed. I think that if DD seems like she is getting what she wants you should just be happy that you've got an easy night baby (so far) .

My LO started nursing for only 5-10 minutes (often closer to 5) at around 8 weeks. I think some babies just get really efficient at getting the milk, and some moms' breasts are just more efficient at letting down than others. I would suspect the short nursing at night is because the baby is hungrier and therefore even more efficient. Also, if your breasts are fuller because he's been sleeping a few hours, and you're more relaxed because you're sleepy, your milk probably lets down even faster than during the day...So the baby gets more in a short time.

My DS started doing that around 6 weeks. He goes longer at night and every 2 hours during the day. At the time, he ate a lot more during the day and I figured out that with my healthy supply, he was getting all foremilk. I started pumping some off immediately before a feeding and that helped, and my supply has since leveled off where I only pump if he goes 8+ hours at night and I wake up leaking.

My 2nd was like that too. She'll let you know if she's hungry. If she seems satisfied, has the diapers and is gaining, it sounds like she is just efficient.
