Nursing 2nd Baby - Engorgement & Timing Questions

We had our first DS 5 years ago so I'm rusty on all the BF info - please bear with me.

Our DD is a week old today. She was 37w5d and 7# 1oz. All is going well. At her well-check at 5 days, she was already gaining weight from her low point. They felt like she was a little jaundiced but nothing serious. All great news. I think all is well.

I have a question about engorgement and that feeling of "fullness" this time around. I was pretty engorged for the first couple days but now I'm really not getting that super duper full feeling. I'm also not leaking really at all.

As I said before, its been 5 years so I'm a little foggy but it seems like I was really full with DS and was leaking for a fair amount of time before that tapered off.

DD seems satisfied after feedings and is having plenty of wet dipes/gaining weight, etc. so I think we're ok but I was just wondering -- is the process of establishing a breastfeeding relationship really different with #2? Does this make sense - no real engorgement/leaking at 1 week post partum?

Also, she is nursing anywhere between 2 and 3 hours apart most of the time -- on demand, no schedule. Sometimes she nurses hourly for a bit and sometimes I'm waking her to feed so it doesn't go beyond 3 hours as she's still a little small and sleepy. Last night she did 3 separate stints of 3 hours apart. If she's doing it on her own and waking to feed, is that timing ok? Do I need to keep it closer to 2 hours apart still?

Thanks.

Often second time moms have little/no engorgement or leaking.

Sounds like you guys are doing great! Weight gain, good pees and poops

With a sleepy baby who has some jaundice but is gaining well and feeding every 2 hours during the day, I would wake every 3 hours at night for the first 2 weeks or until they have regained birthweight. It sounds like your DD is waking after 3 hours on her own

Congratulations and happy babymoon! :
