Grace-based parenting

I was wondering if anyone here has read any of these books:

http://www.amazon.com/Biblical-Paren...3339266&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Families-Where...ref=pd_sim_b_1

http://www.amazon.com/Grace-Based-Pa...d_bxgy_b_img_b

..or any similar books?

I also assuming these do not advocate "spare the rod, spoil the child" perspective.

I'm not Christian, but find tend to like their take on realationships and family.

Thanks!

Can you describe grace-based parenting? I know there's a Christian idea of living in grace, but I really don't know what it means.

Sorry, but I don't know those books!

Don't know as I haven't read any of the books, but my local library has one of those three, so I can hopefully pick it up tomorrow.

Also bumping for any reviews!

Thanks, I got it and read into the first chapter only. I like what he has to say so far, but since I'm not Christian, there are some things that I have to amend to fit my belief structure..but all in all, it seems like exactly what I've been looking for

Also, I'm still up for any other recommendations for similar books!

I read "Grace-Based Parenting" and found it really spoke to me. I have read UP, Connection Parenting, and others...really loved this one EXCEPT that towards the end he suddenly talks about spanking his children as acceptable!! ughhhh!!! I was so frustrated. The entire rest of his book is awesome, very AP/Gentle discipline, and I loved it b/c I am Catholic and it really helped me see *all* my relationships this way. But I still feel like I need to write to him and tell him how ticked and shocked I was that he advocated spanking as a means of effective discipline. In his book he talks about these other "fear-based parents" and then I couldn't believe he doesn't view spanking in that category...anyway, rant over...otherwise it's an amazing book.

I have Grace-Based Parenting but it's been a while since I've read it. If know I enjoyed it but wasn't overwhelmed with "wow, this is the parenting book for me!" or anything. It is very gentle parenting, unconditional parenting type stuff if I remember correctly. I don't think spanking is really a topic at all, pro or con, it's more abstract about showing grace to your children instead of expecting to be a dictator I guess...

Maybe I'll have to read it again, I'm not seeming to remember much.

This is a little OT but the book I did get that "wow, this is it" feeling about was Parent Effectiveness Training...it's not from a Christian perspective as these books are but I thought it was wonderful as far as practical methods.

Thanks for this website. I found an amazing quote on the site that has given me a lot to think about. "Too often parents are taught that their discipline choices can even guarantee the salvation of their children. This is not only not our job, it’s God’s job alone. Our job as parents is to prepare the hearts of our children to be good ground for the seed of the Gospel which is our privilege to plant, not to produce perfectly behaved Stepford children."
