No one will make me a placenta smoothie

I've been planning a lotus birth for years, and have always thought I'd take a chunk off the maternal side of the placenta and eat it if I feel the need after birth.

The other day I had a feeling that I should just eat the whole thing. Problem is, my DH is vegetarian (as am I) and is disgusted by the thought of touching or preparing anything with a placenta. He's even saying we need to buy a separate colander for it b/c he doesn't want "meat in his colander". Lol. And I talked to the midwife about making me a smoothie and she was sort of horrified...she asked why we couldn't just encapsulate.

Encapsulating is something that a) sounds like too much trouble b) doesn't seem as "natural" and c) is inconvenient since I'd prefer it raw, which means getting the dehydrator out of the basement.

But I doubt I'll feel like getting up and cutting it, throwing it in the blender. And honestly I don't know if I could either. I'm glad others find placentas beautiful, but I find them really disgusting looking and I can see getting the heaves trying to prepare something like that. I am only willing to eat it b/c I know of all the benefits and it highly seems worth it, and more natural than anything pills can provide.

Ugh, wish the midwife would do it...

Aww hun.. I'd make it for you if I lived close by Do you have a family member or friend who'd be willing to? Encapsulating strikes me as too much trouble also. Would the midwife be willing to encapsulate it for you?

I am a vegetarian too, and am going to *try* and eat a tiny bit in a smoothie after the birth. The rest my dh will encapsulate. I have a lot of of people willing ot do all this-dh, the midwife, and her apprentice. Could you ask a friend? I personally think your dh is being ridiculous. It is not really meat, it is part of your own body, it is the thing that fed and nourished his baby. How will it contaminate the colender?

Hire a postpartum doula for a day and have her do it?

Totally agreed. It does seem ridiculous. For me, meat is a dead animal. A placenta is NOT. It's also natural, my own body made it, we know it's not made of synthetic hormones, etc. I don't get it. Oh well, everyone has their own opinions I guess.

He's also grossed out by breastmilk, which is irritating. What, drink cow's milk (a stranger!) and you won't go near MY milk that I made??? Hmm...

We have one hired, and she said she would do this, but she's not able to come until the baby's a week old and I want to drink it right away. If I can at least get the midwife to cut it in strips, I could have some right away and freeze the rest for when the postpartum doula is around.

I would make you one in a heartbeat hun. I'm so sorry the people around you aren't supportive. Please don't let that stop you. I let my exhusbands issues with me eating the placenta stop me from doing so with my 2nd son's birth. I suffered with PPD because of it.

Maybe you have other friends who can come by and make one for you? Or hire a PP doula?

encapsulate

Crashing from September ... We made the pills after DD's birth. It was very easy and it worked for my depression. I froze it, cut it into strips (not as gross as handling raw squishy meat), dehydrated, ground in a coffe grinder then I emptied B vitamin capsules and mixed some placenta with some b vitamin powder and poured back into the capsules using a straw... it really took about 1/2 hour total. It wasn't a big deal. I had a lot of placenta left as well ... so maybe you want to do a quick piece for a smoothie, then freeze and encapsulate the rest. :

good luck.
