Strange induction suggestions

Thread Starter
Ok I gues I'm on a roll with my third thread but since I just got this little tidbit from my aunt I just have to ask....

Has Anyone ever heard that Eggplant Parmesean can induce labor????

Also the other night a whipped up some cookie dough, and then ate alot of it... and maybe/ maybe not the prodromal contrax really kicked it up a notch and (TMI) i pooped like 6 times durring the night.... so could cookie dough work as well as castor oil??? Maybe....

I am guessing the cookie dough made me sick and therefore irritated the uterus.

With my first I did castor oil twice in the last week and it never induced Labor... my cervix just wasn't cooperating.

Anyway, anyone able to confirm or deny this tidbit.

I know 2 people who swear it worked for them and 2 people who ate it and- Nuttin'.

Here is a link to the famous recipe:

eggplant parm

From what I hear it's really good- even if it doesn't do anything.

I've heard about the eggplant parmesean. I made it when I was pregnant with Colleen and it did nothing for me. Sure was tasty though!

On another board I'm on occasionally, a mama was told to climb up on her fridge and jump off. I'm pretty sure it was a joke. LOL

Last night I ran into an acquaintance who is a holistic Chinese medicine practitioner. This is probably more legitimate than eggplant parm, but she said the side of your pinky toe is an acupressure spot that not only induces labor but can also make you spontaneously abort in early pregnancy.

I have a book with acupressure points and that pressure point on the side of your pinky toe is purported to help turn a posterior baby according to that source.

Heard of the eggplant parm too, wondering why, maybe it's something in the eggplant. I've also heard eat lots of pineapple, that something in the enzymes help ripen the cervix.

Eggplant is a very oily food and when you fancy it up you can make it a little spicy maybe that is it. Otherwise maybe it's something most people eat so rarely they all associate it with a birth dinner. Saying that I could go for some it sounds really yummy birth inducer or not!!!

oh yeah, i've also heard of papaya...dubbed "the abortion fruit" in some cultures. Supposedly unripe papaya latex mimics prostaglandin and oxytocin.

I've heard of the eggplant parm thing also...fwiw, my friend that was due on this coming Tuesday(day before me) ate like an entire pineapple and then went into labor about a day and a half later. It's worth a shot! Pineapple's yummy! :

The eggplant parm thing is actually becuase there is a restaurant that sells eggplant parm in New York. From what I heard they put a lot of oregano in it and that is what induces labor.

Oregano and basil, yup yup.

There's a restaurant near me that makes a pizza that everyone says puts you into labor. I can't remember exactly what is on it but I think there is a lot of garlic.

For me my weird inducer, or pre labor sign, is I get sick. I'm really trying to do all I can to not make that happen! My one midwife told me its because my body tells me I need to quit working so hard and relax because the baby is coming soon. I'd just rather not get sick. I wonder if its also because your immune system can take a dive a little before.

I haven't heard about the eggplant parm, but I was recently told that ginger ale starts labor. Specifically, the best ginger ale of all time: Vernors. It may or may not be true, I do not care. I only know that I now have an excuse to eat yummy eggplant parmesan and drink all of my favorite ginger ale I want. I even get to top it off with sex.

Life is so good.

Yup heard of the eggplant....

My friend tried the pineapple. I don't remember what happened.

Cumin is also a spice that is said to help.

Well... eat something every night in late pregnancy and eventually it'll work! I remember reading something about a restaurant that had a 100% effective "baby come out" salad recipe. But the small print was that they didn't garuntee a time for babe to come out. Just that if you ate the salad you'd eventually have your baby.

Any food that irritates the intestines can help in terms of triggering contractions. Any food that mimics or increases the levels of prostaglandins can help prepare the cervix and get that show moving, and some foods contain enzymes that may enhance the "stretchiness" of tissue. Any activity that encourages the babe to "rub" or "bounce" on the cervix or which manually presses against the cervix or lifts the bag of waters can help (since cervical stimulation leads to hormonal shifts).

pineapple, papaya, cumin, oregano, basil- these can mimic or increase prostaglandin production and/or contain enzymes that may get things going.

Walking, stair climbing, bumpy car rides, swinging- these all get the babe shifting and massage the cervix.

castor oil, enemas, spicy foods- all irritate the intenstines and may stimulate "sympathetic" contractions in the uterine muscle.

And then there are things like acupressure (this site has good pictures), homeopathic, or herbal treatments.
