Microfleece lining - doesn't absorb?

OK, help me out here. I'm a prefold user, so this whole microfleece lining is new to me. I just bought a Happy Hempy fitted diaper to try out for nighttime use. I got the kind with the microfleece inside because it's supposed to help the baby feel drier. So, my understanding is that the microfleece doesn't hold liquid...that's why it will help baby feel dry, right. The pee passes through and is absorbed by the insert...

I've washed my new Happy Hempy diaper 4-5 times, with Country Save detergent, which is what I use on my other diapers and baby clothes. The hemp part of the diaper absorbs nicely. However, when I drip a little water on the microfleece part it beads up. If my LO pees a lot at once, won't the pee run out of the diaper before it gets through the microfleece to the insert? What's with the beading up? I don't think I have detergent buildup...I always do an extra rinse...plus I haven't even used this diaper yet!

I'm confused.

We use pocket diapers with MF, and haven't had any problems. I would try the diaper and see how it works for your LO. If it leaks right away, contact the company you bought it from.

Just dripping water on it isn't really an accurate way to tell if it repels or not. It needs the "force" of the pee, and the compression of the diaper being on. You can tell if its repelling if, when its on and if it leaks, the fabric underneath is dry.

I have found that one semi-reliable way to test pocket diapers is to test them wet, right out of the washer. I put it under the running tap to see if it beads up or soaks in. It seems that it soaks in more easily if its already wet, but you can sometimes tell if you might have major repelling this way (but even if it does repel this way, it may not when its on).

That makes sense...that it needs the pressure of an insert and a body inside the diaper for the pee to go through. I guess I'll just give it a try and see what happens!

Good luck!

it will wick through to the soaker zone.
any issues with it not absorbing, you should contact the supplier/manufacturer

OK, I used the Happy Hempies diaper last night. It seems to have worked fine. I just stuffed it with a prefold diaper because the hemp insert I bought with it needs to be washed a few more times (water still beading up on it). I think my LO could still feel that he was wet (even with the microfleece), so I did end up changing him in the night. However, I think if I stuff it with something more absorbent we might be in good shape. Then again...maybe he just had gas or something. He did fall deeply asleep after I changed him, though...
