Cat litter/fertilizer/compost

I hope I'm asking in the right forum.

I want to switch the cats to the pine litter when we move. Can I use it as fertilizer for my herbs or can I compost it or what?

We've lived in an apartment all this time and are getting our first house in a month or so. I'm kind of clueless about litter disposable now.

no, you can pretty much never compost cat, dog or human waste.....it's too toxic.

now, it might be a different story if you were feeding your cats home-made, holistic food and they were using pine or other non-toxic recycled/recyclable materials. if you could possibly use this "manure", i would age it for 2 years instead of the usual 6-12 months, just to be on the safe side. and thats if you could even use it at all.

you can dump cat boxes into a FLOWER bed as long as you are not growing anything for human consumption. alternative is to have a second compost pile that is isolated and never used for crops. Eventually, you can use it on crops, but I don't know how long it takes.

My personal feeling about compost is that I do what it takes to keep stuff out of the landfiill.

You can compost it, but I wouldnt put it near my veggies.

i've used pine litter, but now i use swheatscoop. i regularly empty the cat box, but not the poop, underneath bushes and in ivy around the perimiter of my yard. it's not helping mark territory like i'd hoped , but doesn't seem to negatively affect the plants at all.

i agree, i wouldn't add it to my garden compost.
