I had my baby! Daniel was born on August 4 at 9:08pm. We had to induce due to suspected placental insufficiency at 39 weeks, 3 days.
Miso to ripen the cervix and Pitocin got me to 3 cm, 60% effaced over a 23 hour period
This is my third baby! It was supposed to be easier!
Waters were broken (I had polyhydramnios, so it was controlled) at 4:30 and Pitocin continued.
At around 8pm I was only at 6cm with ripping contractions--the baby's head was acynclitic (tilted). The CNM had me get on all fours, butt in the air, and do pelvic rocks to get his head to disengage and hopefully re-engage and not be tilted. I had to do that DURING incredibly painful contractions.
Heartrate decels during contractions were quite severe and I was facing a c-section if the baby didn't come soon. I went from 6cm to 9.5 cm with an anterior lip in about a half an hour. The CNM help back the lip with her hand and had me do light grunting pushes to help thin out the lip. Two or three pushes and it worked.
5 more ROARING pushes and he was out. 28 hour induced labor in hospital, 16 of it on Pitocin, no pain meds or epidural. It was the hardest thing I have EVER done.
But he is healthy and perfect! He has a beautiful latch, my milk is coming in nicely, and while it wasn't the birth I wanted, it was what was needed to birth him safely, and the CNMs and hospital supported me through the most "natural" birth possible given the circumstances.
