Testicles dropping?

Sorry, I wasn't sure where else to post this.....

My DS is 12m (intact)....At his 10m appointment they said his testicles were very high. Well I noticed the other day, they have dropped. One is really red and hard, is this normal? He doesn't seem to be in any pain, but did seem to be upset when I was wiping the poo off that area, so maybe it's just diaper rash?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure exactly how "hard and red" you mean, but I would be concerned if it was constant, but not concerned if it was fleeting. Temperature has a huge effect on testicles and the scrotum. If it looked like this, when he was very warm, but he went back to normal after cooling down, I would not be concerned.

ETA: I just noticed that you said "one was very hard and red." The should be pretty similar to each other, since they should be pretty close to the same temperature.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I supposed the redness could be diaper rash/heat rash related but I'm not sure about the hardness. Was the hardness just on the fleshy part of the scrotum or actually felt on the testicle? I ask because my ds once got a nasty bug bite on his scrotum and it left a very hard, red bump about the size of a dime.
You could call the Dr. office Fri. and ask them what you should watch for. If the area looks bulging at all it could be a hernia (I'm just guessing, this isn't really my area of expertise). There is a testicular infection called Epididymitis but I honestly don't recall ever reading of anyone your son's age getting it. If he acts like it's hurting him I'd take him to the doctor.
I wish I had more advice to offer. I hope it's better soon!

If there is any question about what is going on I would get to the ER immediately. If he has testicular torsion it is a true emergency. Good luck.

I would be concerned with just one being red and hard if it lasted more than a few hours since it could be a sign of testicular torsion like Dave2GA said. Dont want to mess with that at all.

Dont mean to try and scare you at all here but I feel I need to mention this. It is probably a mute point anyway but just in case you do take him in and he does have a torsion that means emergancy surgery to try and save the testical. You will need to make sure that you talk to the surgeon about keeping his hands off your ds's penis in any way shape or form. To many posts here about forced retraction during this type of surgery recently for me not to bring this up.
