Silly Diaper Prep Question

Thread Starter
I just got a new stash of organic, unbleached infant prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers. Karen suggests washing them in hot 4-5 times to prep them. Do I dry them in between the 4-5 times? Or, can I simply keep running them through the wash?

Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.... But, I just started washing and I'm not sure what to do next!

I contacted KAren at Green Mountain Diapers directly. She said that drying does help. She also said that if your hot water isn't very hot consider adding water heated on the stove to boost up the temperature to help get the oils off. An overnight soak can help if that works out in the timing of the washings.

So, voila. We'll try this! Thanks for the input!!

I didn't want to waste that much water, so I put mine in a pot of boiling water on the stove, with a drop of Dawn for thirty minutes (discarding the pot each time- it was majorly yellow). Then I ran them through the heavy cycle in my FL washer, and that was it! Dried them in the dryer and they are fluffy and ready!

I just prepped some UBIPFs by doing 3 hot washes (with a little Planet detergent the first wash), the dried, and repeated 3 washes and dry. After the first drying, they were quite fluffy! They look wonderful after the 2nd. I could seriously curl up in the pile and sleep.

I considered boiling but don't have a pot big enough for 36.

It was a bit of a pain; I did 3 at a time (infant sized unbleached) in a big soup pot. Let me know if you find a pot for 36 premiums!

I just received more infants from LLs (bleached this time) and tried the washer method and they seemed to fluff up much faster. Is there a difference between prepping bleached and unbleached?
