Tetnus?

Okay I stopped DS immunizations after his 6th month checkup. He hasn't had any since. This kid is healthy as a horse. Nothing more than a sniffle here and there. He's 3 and a half now.

So this weekend, we were camping and DS was running past the campfire and fell in. We are real lucky, it could have been far worse. But he does have 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his arm, a small one on his side.(Thank heavens for the Spiderman swim vest he was wearing).

Anyway, he's seen several DRs since then and they all go on and on about him needing to be up to date on his tetnus shot. Is tetnus a worry with burns? I don't see how tetnus bacteria could possibly survive in open flame.
Are they all just messing with me? He is on antibiotics to prevent infection.

He'll be okay. He's already running around like nothing happened.

TIA, Terri

I dont see how tetanus could survive a fire. I dont think its a threat unless the blister comes open and he gets a lot of dirt in it or something like that. Besides he probably still has some protection from his 6 month shots.

I agree...Id be more worried about infection...besides if he got his 2 4 and 6 month shots he is FINE!

Thanks, that's what I thought.

I just don't understand this wanting to stick a kid with a needle everytime you turn around.
