He said that he WILL be getting the vaccine and he thinks i'm crazy for not ever vaxing my three boys and if I don't vax them against the swine flu they will suffer and even die....crazy guy!

He also said that the swine flu is not dangerous right now, and the vax they made is for this strain is for the non dangerous swine flu...But if it mutates then we are in huge trouble and many peoile will die. BUT THE VAX WONT COVER THE NEW MUTATED STRAIN OF THE SWINE FLU...So why even vax at all? If this strain is not dangerous...

The vaccine would probably attenuate the symptoms of a stronger strain, without preventing it altogether. I still wouldn't vaccinate but just my opinion.

If it does do the same thing the pandemic flu did in 1918, it comes in Spring, relatively mildly. Then, the second wave in fall is deadly. Somewhere between 20 and 50 million people died in that pandemic.

In 1918 an H1N1 swine flu recombined with an H1N1 seasonal flu that led to 20-50 million fatalities, as the virus spread world wide and affected approximately 1/3 of the population. That outbreak began as mild disease in the spring and most of the fatalities were associated with outbreaks in the fall of 1918 and 1919. There were multiple waves during the outbreak, raising concerns of a similar scenario in 2009.

Young people have no resistance to this strain. Older people do have some, presumably because there was an epidemic of something not dissimilar in the past. If you're vaccinated against the virus as it is now, you'll have at least some immunity if it changes to become more lethal.

While all of this is true. It bears mentioning that a huge numer of these fatalities were due to secondary bacterial infections...pneumonia being the biggest. There were no antibiotics back then. I can't see how comparing the fatality rate from 1919 is relevant nowadays even if this strain were to become more virulent this fall.
