My daughter needs dental surgery and before hand needs to get a physical from our Dr. She's never been to see him and is not vaxed. If he is a pro vax Dr can he make it so that she can't get the surgery she needs???

of course not...they are looking for a simple statement of your child current health (ie no heart problems esp)...vaccinating and dental sugery (or surgery of any kind have nothing to do with each other.

Do not even bring it up....tell them you need a physical that's all.

Doubtful. I have had several surgeries in my life for various things and have never been asked about vaccine status.

Hi! I worked in oral surgery for 8 years and never once asked a patient about his/her vax status. We don't need to know that information.

It may indeed come up, depending on where the surgery is being done at. My son has had numerous surgeries, all of them at a Children's Hospital (which, if this surgery is going to require any anesthesia or sedation, and depending on her age, her's may be at a hospital as well). The question of being "up to date" on vaccines has been on the physical form every time, and the nurses in pre-op have always asked me.

In our case, we live in a state with easy exemptions, and my son is special needs anyway, so I just say "no, we have an exemption on file, and his various specialists are helping us manage his vax schedule" which is true, we have a partial medical exemption on file, and many of his specialists discuss vaxes with me frequently.

The ped may bring it up to you, but you can just say "we've been delaying, and right now we just want to get this surgery over with, but I would like to talk to you more about them, when would be good to come back so we can discuss it?" because the appt was probably only scheduled for 15 minutes. The ped may annotate on the form "not vaxed" or something like that, but that's it.

Then, when you go in for the surgery, you can tell the nurse "she's on an alternate schedule and her ped is aware of it" and leave it at that. No lying, no fear mongering, everybody's happy.
