Folding a Prefold- Too Big and Bulky

I tried folding a prefold on my baby the other day for the first time. It seemed way to big and if I folded it over more, it was just really bulky! My baby is 7 weeks old, 14 lbs and I am trying to use Infant prefolds. Any fold suggestions?

When the regular premiums were too big on my ds, sometimes I folded down some in the back and some in the front, so all the bulk was not in the same place...

What fold are you using? Maybe that would make a difference?

I find the bikini twist leaves less extra at the top to fold down.

Are you switching from disposibles? If so the prefolds are going to seem really bulky until you get used to them. We did an angelwing fold. It's bulky but it works well!

what size prefold... how big is baby?

I like the bikini twist too, it is trimmer through the crotch and takes up some of the bulk at the waist.

But yes, if you are comparing to disposables, it's going to seem bulky. The babies don't mind.

Fold it sideways! I flip mine sideways and fold each end in, so you end up with four layers instead of three. Like this, sideways prefold: | | | | <- fold each end in towards the centre, and then fold in half. Does that make any sense? I swear easier done than said. Takes away all the bulkiness and it got me to like prefolds.

I find that prefolds can be very trim if you have some good skillz! I do a really tight jellyroll fold. I set the babe on the prefold with the back of the pf level with the bellybutton. Then I roll each side in really tight up by the bottom- bring it through the legs, unroll it slightly at the top and flip over the extra (not under, but out) and snappi. Its very trim, tight, and shaped like a fitted that way!

an infant prefold at that size i would say will seem very bulky , esp if you are just switching from sposies as others have mentioned. baby will grow fast and the infant prefolds will not seem as bulky. in the mean time, practicing some new folds can help you find the last bulky option. we use both the bikini twist here and the jellyroll fold. the jelly roll is best for keeping our dd's poo in (though the twist works pretty well too).

I was trying the newspaper fold (I think that's what they called it)
My baby is about 14 lbs now and all I know about the prefold size is "infant"
So, maybe I need to try one of these other folds.. And just know that they ARE going to be pretty bulky (compared to sposies)

i second the jelly roll- its our favorite and seems pretty trim to me, but i've never used sposies.

DS is 4 weeks and I do a jellyroll fold with 2 preemie prefolds. It is nice and trim.
