i changed hos regulations!

Thread Starter
about a week before my scheduled induction i was meeting with my midwife for the last time and discussuing my induction process and diffrent options, when the medicines used for induction came up i explained to her that i was very set against using cytotec because it was not approved for induction uses by the fda and it has been reported to cause some pretty negative reactions, she told me this wasnt the case and that it had been approved and that if i wanted the other medication i would have to see if my insurance provider would even cover the it and it was 1000 dollars or more for the drug, i was upset and said i had done lots of homework on the subject and knew it wasnt approved and that it could be dangerous and with my history of having unusual reactions to medications i feared taking it...when i showed up for my induction my midwife was there and going over things with me and she all of a sudden said, id like to thank you by the way...i was a bit confussed thank me for what? she explained that she did some research after our last visit and had found out that i was in fact correct that cytotec had never been approved for that use, and because of that the hos had changed there regulations and made it so women would have to be informed that the drug was not approved for that use and offered the secondary drug!!!! YAY!

Did she mail in 3 proofs of purchase from the cracker jacks box?

They shouldn't offer it PERIOD. UGH

wow, seems like something hospitals should be researching before using. How strange that they don't even think about that kind of stuff.
Yay for you for bringing this to their attention. Kind of makes me think a lot of the stuff they do in hospitals might be changed if we could just meet with the person in charge and come in with our handbook of things they do traditionally based and give them some evidence based stuff.

Bravo HippyChick!!! Not only you did a wonderful thing for your birth, you helped ALL the other women who will birth there (and probably saved lives!)!
:

I hope this story finds its way to the press - it could help other hospitals, as well! Any ideas? (Any journalists here?)

What a step in the right direction that is! Good for you, and what a respectable midwife to admit that she was wrong and work to change things as a result.
