Anyone who delayed or no-vax had/have a child get sick from one of the diseases you did not vax to prevent?

Not yet, but here's hoping. I'd like her to have the chicken pox, rubella and mumps. Not all at once, of course

Chicken pox. Three kids in our homeschooling group who did vaccinate for it also got it...

My DS 2's gotten the Chicken Pox's so far. He's only 2 so he still has time to pick up some of the others.

I am sure there are some cases but so far other than pox, none that I know of personally.

My children are 10, 3.5, 1.5 and other than my oldest getting scarlet fever as a toddler (No vax to prevent this) they are so very very healthy. And we have tried hard to get them to catch chicken pox with no luck yet! Arg!

Chicken pox for sure. Maybe pertussis, but it was so mild that I didn't bother to have it confirmed.

I saw a statistic in a book when they were talking about chicken pox that even people who don't get chicken pox by age 10, but have been exposed, generally have antibodies to it, anyway. Might be worth a titer check I guess some people get it but get no symptoms? I dunno.

Both of my kids have had chicken pox.

My son got Rubella from a friend who isn't vaxed. It was so mild. He did get a high fever and didn't feel well for a few days, but it really was no big deal. Of course, he did recover and is doing great!

I read recently that if a baby gets it while nursing, mom's antibodies will offer some protection, so the baby may have a mild or undetectable case. Of course, can't remember the source.

Chicken Pox, all of the kids in our playgroup got it, even the vaxed ones and there was no difference in severity.

Rubella, he had the rash....it was diagnosed...but he didn't feel sick at all. He was still playing in the back yard all weekend (had it over thanksgiving two years ago). He had a low grade fever and clear runny nose with it, just like he did with the chicken pox. Rubella doesn't even itch.

He had pertussis as a baby/toddler...caught it from dd (she was vaxed and he wasn't). Humidity helped, high doses of vitamin C and lots of mama's milk. I did end up getting him the antibiotics to lessen contagion because I have a daycare and would have lost my business if I'd closed down for an entire month.

My oldest had pertussis.

My middle child had pertussis and my youngest might have had Rubella (not sure, as it might have been an allergic reaction to something...was told it could be either and that a titer test might be the best way of getting a definative answer...haven't bothered). Hoping for some pox and mumps some day soon...

I suspect my dd had rotavirus. In an EFB baby was no big deal, though. I am sure it hits formula-fed infants harder, though.

I forgot to include that since it's not on the vax schedule...but we defenitely had that too. WOAH, the smell is enough to make keel over, lol.

I was not vaxed and I had measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox and whooping cough. It was not fun.

:

I was vaxed 4 times for MMR and my titers show I have NO immunity to rubella

Me too! They tried to force it on me when we applied for our marriage license and my blood test came back negative for R titers...cause ya know, you can only get pregnant after you've received that marriage license blood test!

Chicken pox, Rota Virus, suspected Rubella, and a non typable strain of Haemophilus Influenzae (the HiB vax protects against the B strain, and one of my son's drs was actually stupid enough to say "see, you should have vaxed him" to which I said "but he didn't have HiB, he had NTHi, very different" and the dr said "I'm pretty sure the vax would have given him some protection against whatever strain he had" which is just so WRONG that I stopped the discussion right there).

Oh, he's also had two pneumonias, but we've never cultured them to know if it was a bacterial strain covered in Prevnar.

This is all my younger son...my older son has had only Chicken Pox and Rota, but he's too old, the Rota vax came out after he was too old to get it anyway so that probably doesn't count.

ETA: And I have absolutely NO REGRETS about it. My younger son is special needs, so many of these illnesses have required hospitalization (Rota, the NTHi, one of the pneumonias, and the CP required some extra medical care although he was never admitted). Yet he got through every one of them. His immune deficiency means that he doesn't mount much (if any) immunity from natural infections, I doubt he would from a vaccine anyway.
