Not sure if my mei tai fits correctly

Thread Starter
I got a Babyhawk Mei Tai and my 8 month old son doesn't seem to fit properly in it.

He can barely see over the top of the mei tai and his arms are under the straps, not over - like this picture (which is not me!).

http://www.wrapyourbaby.com/meitaiback.htm (not like this).

Does that mean the carrier doesn't fit properly?

TIA!!

I guess I've seen some babies with arms over the straps but I thought most arms should be under. I wear my 5.5mo ds in a mei tai a lot and his arms are under the straps and the hood part behind his head comes up over his head. He can still see around if he turns his head to the side but there is fabric behind his head. We have a kozy and I follow the holds on here

It sounds like it fits fine!

I would try folding it a little bit under on the bottom and also folding the top part down if it seems too long... The arms thing is usually the baby's preference, I would only be worried if it seemed like his mouth or nose was being covered or if he seemed uncomfortable. Mei tai's are very versatile so I'm sure you can work it out.

I have a friend made mei tai, and Babyhawk on the way (yay!) and if I make more of a pocket for him to sit then the top is lower and he can get arms out. Does that make sense?

Do you have a picture you can post? It'll help to see the fit in action.

Arms in is fine and so is arms out. It really often depends on your own baby and if they want their arms in or out. Most older babies will pull their arms out if they want them out.

Is the headrest down when you are wearing him? He'll see better with it down. You can then put it up after he is sleeping.

Do you have the baby or the toddler hawk? The toddler hawk is about 3 inches taller than the baby hawk.
