Veg*n eating in Dublin area.

My father, who is older, wants to go visit an old friend who lives in the Dublin suburbs. Since dad is in his 80, easily flustered, etc he needs someone to go with him, and it is likely to be DS and I.

DS and I are vegetarians. As well as being a vegetarian, I am very lactose intolerant, and avoid dairy as much as possible. I also have no gall bladder, so I can't handle greasy food either.

Last time I was in Ireland, there was very little vegetarian food, and practically nothing dairy free and vegetarian. I haven't been to Ireland in many years (around 20,) and I know stuff has changed (20 years ago, it was pretty hard to find veggie food in the US too.) However, I am still nervous that I will have a hard time finding food I can eat. Eating when travelling is always an issue for me.

Any tips from veg*ns in Dublin?

TIA

Hello! Just moved to Dublin and am mostly vegitarian and a wanabe raw fooder . I have found lots of options here! I haven't eaten out here at all but, soy milk and yogurt is available in every chain super market... as well as organic produce, which tells you there is a market here. I'm not sure if restaurants offer it but you could pick up the little boxes if you really wanted it. I don't think a traditional pub would offer a lot of choices outside of traditional pub food. Although, if it's in the center and really touristy it probably would. Dublin has loads of cool restaurants and it is very diverse so you could try something more modern for dinner and go to the pub for drinks.
Also, if you want veg restaurants here's actually a website, Happy Cow, which will give the listings of them and shops in the area. If you want to eat in and prefer organic, check out the Dublin Food Co-Op on Thursdays and Saturdays. It's a cool place and they have food venders on Saturday and a cafe. It's a bit off the center but there is another organic Saturday market in the center, but I have been, just saw it listed in a guide book.

Here's Happy Cow's link-- http://www.happycow.net/europe/ireland/dublin/

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks so much, but it turns out my omnivorous sister will be able to take a couple of weeks off to take him. Though I'm a bit disappointed not to be going and seeing Ireland again, I'm more relieved since I don't have to face lugging DS's carseat through airport security; convincing him the planes toilet won't eat him; getting him to sit quietly through long dinners with people in their 80s; going to bed when people in their 80s want to; not destroying dad's friend's house; etc.
