The People Of The Book

By Geraldine Brooks. Has anyone else read this? I love it- it's about Hanna Heath, a book conservationist, who is commissioned to preserve a 500 year old Haggadah in post-war Sarajevo, 1996. She finds strange things in the Haggadah (a butterfly wing, a hair strand, wine stain) and between chapters, a story is told of how each item got there. It's really the history and story of the Haggadah, and self-discovery for Hanna. It's a wonderful historical fiction and mystery. Anyone else read it?

Yes, I read this a while ago...I loved it!

She has another book called Year of Wonders that I want to read.

I love that book. Our ladies book group read it.

Did you read Year of Wonders or March by the same author? Both books were very worthy of precious reading time.

Yes, I read it. I am a big fan of Geraldine Brooks. I love her other novels, also her book about Muslim women, Nine Parts of Desire and Foreign Correspondence about tracking down the various pen pals she had when she was growing up in Australia.

I'm also a fan of her husband, the author Tony Horwitz.

I first read her book Nine Parts of Desire and just fell in love with her. It's a non-fiction work, but just as good as her fiction. I highly recommend it.

I'm listening to People of the Book on my ipod during exercise. I'm only on chapter one, but enjoying it so far.
