moving to Manchester - where to live?

Hi Mamas,

We are possibly going to move to Manchester next month if I am accepted to a post-graduate programme at the University of Manchester. Do you have any advice on good neighborhoods for families with small children that are near or accessible to the university

Also, any connections for baby groups, play dates, etc?

Thanks a lot!

i just saw this! sorry, it's probably too late for you.

i grew up in manchester & would suggest you look in south manchester - withington, chorlton, whalley range, didsbury (pricey but look on the outer edges). if you are looking to rent most university students rent in rusholme or fallowfield, but that's very much a pub & party sort of renting. students tend to live along the wilmslow road corridor for a reasons - it's got the most frequent buses (rumour has it that it's the busiest bus route in europe, not sure if that's true or not)

I just saw this too!! Unfortunately this bit of the forum doesn't get checked often enough!!!
I live near Manchester in the East Cheshire area....
The Sandbach, Conlgleton, Alsager, Holmes Chapel area is lovely.
Lots of playgroups, a few different La Leche Leagues in the vicinity, etc.

Probably a bit late, but there is a chance we might be moving to Manchester as well. We home educate (and I have found a great looking home ed web site, which I will join once all confirmed)

Any more advice on areas or groups would be really appreciated, we will be renting, budget around 700 gbp
