Looking for baby play mat square ideas or patterns?

It's my first-time in the crafts forum (though I've posted in the DIY cloth diaper forum a few times). So, hi!

I'm looking for some suggestions on where I could find playmat or quilt square ideas for a baby?

I'm basically looking for fun, interactive square ideas (you know, peek-a-boo flaps, texture play, etc.). I could even rework baby fabric play book pages into a mat.

It doesn't necessarily have to be specific patterns, maybe even just Flilckr photos, insipirational blog posts, online tutorials, etc.

Anyone?

Thanks!

I don't have any experience, but I would suggest just diving into your project. I think your idea of taking a fabric baby book apart and sewing it together is a good idea. You could just back the mat of squares with a piece of fabric, but I don't think you'd need to. I'm picturing the mat in my head, and I think it would look cute.

I couldn't find any pictures on Etsy or Flickr to help you, but I'm confident you can make this work. You'll have to post a picture when you're done.

Oh, another thought that I had- at first, your baby is going to want lots of things to stare at. Black and white geometric images are said to boost brain activity and to help your baby's eyes focus. You could make a quilt with different interesting squares to look at on one side and a solid (or mild) pattern on the other side. When your baby gets to be about three months old (starting to rise up and want to roll), just add your interactive toys onto the mild side and make the black and white crazy side the back.
