recommended for preemies because they are more likely to choke on it?

I hadn't heard that.

I cup fed my 34 week-er (who is now 17 months). She didn't have any problems with it. You basically just tip the cup so the liquid is at their mouths but SHE did the work of getting it in (kinda the way a cat would lap up milk) I suppose choking would be a possiblity if you were trying to use a cup the way WE use cups.

BTW, I had to be very insistent about the cup feeding the hosp. personnel was not excited about it. And after several meetings with a lactaction consultant I did switch to a bottle held a VERY PARTICULAR WAY so as to keep the baby used to working for her meals that way she needed to do for BF'ing.

We are still BF'ing today.

thnx autumn. i'm veyr familir w the technique since both my other kids were cup feed at one pt or another, i just was told at the medical university though that there was new evidence that it wasn't that gr8 for preemies and wanted to verify since i'd never heard it before.
