blanket for 5yo

Ds1 is starting full-day kindergarten in Sept, and he needs a "naptime blanket". I highly doubt any of the kids actually nap, but I assume the idea is a rest/quiet time in the afternoon. His supply list calls for a thick, body-size blanket. Any ideas what might be fun for this besides a simple two-layer fleece rectangle? I don't really like the fringe look of the no-sew fleece blankets.

You can find lots of really fun cottons or flannels. You could do one side fleece for the thickness and one side a fun cotton or flannel print.

Thanks rere! After I posted last night I found lots of fun ideas by looking on etsy for blankets.

Etsy is my "go to"when I'm stumped for ideas!

When I need something thick, I sew together two appropriate sized rectangles of fleece. Typically a print on one side, and a solid on the other. Sometimes I applique something fun on the solid side.

I've done the same thing with chenille/flannel layers, and minkee/fleece layers.

I found some fabric with skateboarders on it today at Joann's. Ds is totally into skateboarding recently (well, the idea of it, anyway!) so I think he will dig it. Didn't buy it because I was in a hurry, but I'll go back next week and match it with some fleece. WC_h, two layers of fleece sounds like a quick and easy way to make it thick, especially since I have no quilting skills for using batting or anything tricky like that.
