nipple and areola pain

I was a lurker for my the first 4 weeks of my DD's life because I was too much in pain to type after I nursed but amazingly, the intense crazy pain has subsided for the most part. Thank you to all of you for sharing your stories, they helped me cope with the unfathomable pain I had for a the first month of my babies life. I probably would have stopped nursing and just pumped if it wasn't for all of you....
Amazingly things have gotten way better. I have a little pain (2 on a scale of 10, it used to be 10 every feeding) but it's after I nurse. The nipple and areola both sting and have a deep pain inside. I cope with it using IB profen but have been taking it since late June when my DD was born. I use heat and it seems to work but on these hot summer days it's tough putting heat on it. I do get blanching of the nipples on one side... my nipples are so sensitive that i have to prop my breasts against pillows while i sleep so they don't move around. If they move, I wake up to pain....
any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thank you!

My mw's prescribed an all purpose nipple ointment. I had to get it at a compounding pharmacy, but it helps a lot with the blanching.
