8 Human Talents - Gurmukh

Is anyone currently working through this, or have any experience with this book or Kundalini yoga. I have been exploring developing a practice of Kundalini since pregnancy and my introduce to Gurmukh through her DVDs. I am getting some DVDs from Netflix to practice right now, and just got 8 Human Talents. There are no teachers anywhere near me, but I am already getting amazing results.
With the book I'm going to be working with the first chakra first. I think I'll do the lower triangle in sequence. I know that kriyas have a certain order they should be done and all, as well as warm-ups. I'm wondering if the chakra exercises, meditations, etc... can be done on their own aside from my practice with the DVDs? Anyone know?
As far as religion, I am a Christian, and I find this book to be very good and on track with my beliefs. I think it is very spiritual, but non-religious.

i really enjoyed the book as well. from the way the material is presented, i would think you can choose the exercises you want to start with and add on from there--no problem starting with one chapter over another. i think Gurmukh chose material that would be safe and accessible for all, to add on to her basic sequence as you feel led. i think she was reaching out to people who do not have a teacher nearby. however, i am not trained to teach kundalini, so my feedback is not "expert" or anything. there is a thread here where you might get answers to your questions.

i agree that the book emphasizes the spiritual but in a way that shows yoga is available to people of all religious backgrounds.

best wishes on your journey.

When I was living in Orlando, I took some kundalini yoga classes at the 3HO foundation. I only took a few, but I have to admit I felt wonderful.

You can read more here http://www.3ho.org/ I believe Gumurkh was/is a follower of Yogi Bhajan. They may be able to put you in touch with some people in your area who offer private or small group lesson... even if it's not advertised.

I've been there. There are three teachers in Kentucky and none of them are near me. We are off-grid so I have no teacher available.

I'm thinking I might try to develop a sort of set of kriyas on my own, but it makes me a bit leery to just pick and choose, not be certain of the type of flow and how one prepares you for the other. YKWIM?

I just purchased "Bountiful, Blissful, Beautiful" (sorry, I'm sure I got that incorrect, but it's upstairs right now...), I haven't read it yet, but I'm very excited to.

So, I'm starting a 40 day commitment to the first 3 chakras tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it, and yet I know it will be really hard. I just thought I'd bump this thread to see if anyone else was participating in Kundalini Yoga for spiritual reasons as well as physical ones.

I am a Christian, and I believe Kundalini Yoga is compatible to most religions. I'd like to keep this an open discussion for everyone, if the thread is useful to anyone other than myself.
