Breastfeeding discrimination on Twitter & the radio

Thread Starter
Radio personality Tim Mihalsky on The Block FM 92.5 kyhy "tweeted" from the baseball stands about a woman "having no shame" breastfeeding in front of him:

TimMihalsky: The lady infront of me is breastfeeding her baby at a Dodger game. No shame

And a follow up tweet, calling the breastfeeding mom "crazy":

Didn't mean to upset Twitter by not liking a crazy woman infront of me breastfeed. Back to the game-Dodgers are losing. Not good.

and yet a follow up tweet, indicating the woman should be isolated:

TimMihalsky: @MomsToWork hahahahaha I understand but go stand in the back. She's front and center

From his website:
http://theblockfm.wordpress.com/2009...c-good-or-bad/

Apparently, he defended his position on air. This blog (not my own), has a link to the on-air conversation, as well as a letter written, and the email addresses of the station manager and radio commentators.

these "no shame" comments absolutely kill me. of course she should not feel shame, she is feeding her child! why would you want her to feel ashamed of doing that and giving her child what they deserve and are born to drink?

i hate how people claim to support bf'ing "in theory" but only as long as the woman is sufficiently "discreet" and shows that she understands essentially that she should have to go in the corner each and every time her child wants to eat because it is somehow shameful or gross. this effectively makes bf'ing a hassle and could deter women from persisting, and excludes them from the normal social public realm and ocnversation in many cases. to those who don't think this is a big deal- it is absolutely a big deal.

thansk for providing the contact info!!

I was going to post this for Feminist Breeder who is on twitter and has the blog post about what happened. If you go to her site there is info on how to reach the station manager and an excerpt from the show as well as the dj is upping the ante and getting his co-host, a female, bash breastfeeding with him. I bet he thinks all this attention is good for his career. We're hoping it will be the opposite.
