Preschool backpack?

DS will be starting preschool in two weeks and I am looking for a small backpack to put a change of clothing and some diapers in. I would love for it to be small enough for him to wear on his back, as he LOVES the idea of backpacks. He does have a tiny backpack that has a leash attached that we use when we are out occasionally, but it is a bit too small for more than a snack. He would literally only be wearing it from the car to inside the school, so not for any length of time at all.

Any suggestions?

Oh, he also has a lunch box, but I figured he could carry that in his hand. He is all about doing everything for himself these days.

Depending on how much you want to spend, LLBean has wonderful backpacks and they have lifetime warranty.

Are they small enough for a 2.5 year old to carry though?

ETA: Their warranty is AMAZING. My mother bought me a leather bottom backpack for Christmas when I was 14 or so and when I was in my mid twenties, the zippers finally started to break. A friend was going to Maine and brought it with her and they replaced it no questions asked. It was at least 10 years old, had been through the wringer, and they still replaced it happily. I LOVE, LOVE LL Bean. I am just worried about it being too big for his body. Not too worried about weight, just size.

My children used Stephen Joseph quilted backpacks in pre-k. They're very lightweight and adorable!

We got the LL Bean junior packs for our pre-k and 1st grader, but I think they would fit a 2.5 yo okay. But it sounds like you don't even need something that big, I would get a mini jansport (or cheaper, similar ones). They fit my 27 month old well and would fit a change of clothes, snack, and a diaper or two.

These are super cute for a boy!!!!!!! We got the girlie kitty one for my DD who just started preschool, and it it the perfect size! Much smaller than a normal backpack, and only $15.

OMG, I love it!!!!! Thank-You so much!!! We were actually just at the mall tonight, and I got DS a lunchbox from Gymboree, and I was thinking of going into Children's Place, but figured they would only have bigger packs in there. Definitely in my price range too! I love the Monkey!

BTW, if anyone is looking for cute preschool friendly lunch boxes, Gymboree has them on sale for $10 right now, and they are soft side, zip top lunch boxes. I like that DS can zip it open himself and can see everything inside easily.

Thank-You, Thank-You, Thank-You!!

DS, almost 3 and half, has had this backpack since last year.

He has the small size.

Ds had this bag the year before. Not the exact same, because the bag was slightly redesigned. It was canvas then, but polyester now.

These are absolutely the cutest backpacks I have ever seen! I really have to be as frugal as I can right now, but if I had a little extra to spend, I would definitely be getting one of these. Super cute!

I just noticed the fun zipper pulls on the Children's Place site. I might have to get a fun one for his lunch bag and/or backpack too. I think I am way more excited about back to school shopping than I need to be.

My son likes his FourPeas backpack. I bought it via MamaBargains, though, so I don't know what they normally cost.

We have this one: http://www.thecrazydazy.com/stephen-...rate-ship.aspx
My son used it for his first year of preschool last year and will be using it again for his last preschool year (and maybe even for kindy after that). We had it personalized with his first name and I LOVE it. It has held up really well, looks brand new aside from the fact that the inside is covered in glitter.
My older son has an LLBean backpack but I think it is too big for a 3 yr. old. He got it at 4.5.

So today at my local recycle/reuse store, I found this backpack for a dollar!! I was so excited! It is super cute, about the right size and super light. It is a bit too wide, but the straps fit him perfectly, and it will hold a change of clothes, a few dipes and his artwork with no problem. Plus if it gets trashed at preschool, I am not too worried, because it was so cheap.

I did some Googling, and it is from a promotional program at a resort in Hawaii for kids. I am ok with that, as it doesn't have any licensed characters on it, and DS does love fish. Yippee!

ETA: It didn't come with the other things in the pic, just the backpack, but that is all we needed anyway. I am still pretty thrilled with my frugal score!

Nice score!

In case anyone else is reading this thread for ideas, we got DS's backpack from Pottery Barn Kids. It was the smallest real backpack (with padded straps) I could find. It fit my smaller-than-average 2 yo and even now at 3 yo it fits him better than the Lands End backpack I got for him. Jansport makes one too, but it's more a mini-backpack purse thing that has adjustable straps.
