Sooo, I'm pretty convinced my unvaxed 8mo old has Measles. . . WWYD?

So yesterday, my 8mo got into his older brother's ice cream sandwhich, it had peanuts in it and freaked me out that he stuck it in his mouth (and very much enjoyed it) and I was scared of some kind of peanut allergy reaction (we have no allergies, but was just generally concerned.) So then later that night, he develped this rash, this rash that was red, blotchy, started behind his ears, traved to his face and was soon all over his body, now mostly on his trunk, butt and tummy, some of the rash was raised, some just blotchy, just a weird rash I've never seen b4. I chalked it up to bad mommying and how could I have left my baby around peanut ice cream eating big brother???!!!! But then as I look back on the course of events the previous days I'm starting to wonder (with great certainty) that he may have measles. See, he developed a fever 3 maybe 4 days ago and since then has been very irritable and scratching his red and puffy eyes, and now develops this rash. I was doing research and looking at measles pictures and it sure looks like he has it. Do I take him in? I'm worried the doc will shame me for not vaxing and putting others *at risk* and now will be *documented* in the state of MN as having a measles outbreak. But from what I gather it seems pretty harmless and to just let it run it's course, it sounds like the fever irritiabilty is the only uncomfortble part (like the rash doesn't itch) so yeah WWYD??

Anyone's babe ever have measles? What can I expect? Will his older unvaxed (3yr old) get it too?

Also should I stray indoors and lock my windows and doors for fear of spreading this or is it too late for that?

TIA!!!!!!!

I don't know your answers but thought I'd point out that even if he was a vaccinated child, he wouldn't even be getting the MMR until 12 months.
If you are worried about it, I'd take him to the doctor.

Did his fever rise after the rash developed? This is more typical of measles. If it preceded the rash and then broke it could be roseola.

Doesn't Rubella develop after the fever as well?

look up a ND.. i have a holistic doctor and he would never shame anyone for something like that... it would be UNETHICAL.

I would not be too concerned unless they developed more serious symptoms.. i have a ton of books about child hood disease and what is done to treat them.. one book i have gives , homeopathic, herbal, and conventional treatment .. and i have one that is a nutritional healing book... I have a library of info... i think everyone should know more about childhood disease..arm yourself w/knowledge.. the less you know the more scared you will be.. just remember there are no boogie men in the closet...

from what i've been told most kids took vit a supp and stayed in bed .. measles is a virus.. there are no antibiotics for it..

First off, he isn't old enough for the measles vax anyway so if the dr gave you any trouble that would be my first reply to shut down that line of conversation. Personally I'd take him in, only so that it can be documented that he has had the measles already. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it. It may be measles, it may not. One of the big things I learned when ds was under a year was that kids get fevers followed by rashes. Roseola commonly starts out with a fever and possible cold/ear infection symtoms followed by a rash about 3-5 days later, as do many illnesses. It's just not usually that big of deal. Fluids, lotion, rest, that's about it.

He most likely has Rosella because of his age. That inadvertently comes first. There are generally several rash/fevers infections a child gets which prime the immune system, and then the measles show up. At least that's how it used to be in my generation. (I am 60+)

All natural childhood infections are mild for most kids and should not be treated. You could give some Vita A for the eyes and if the child does not want to eat, don't coax him. The child will know what to do, let him tell you.

I would not go to the doctor, I see no reason for it.

Next time your child has a fever, check out his throat. Koplik Spots appear during the fever before the rash in measles.
