Help with fixing a bad latch

I'm so frustrated! My little guy has a shallow latch. I suspected this and had a lactation consultant come to my house and she confirmed that was the case. Not getting good milk transfer and not gaining so great. When she was here yesterday she had me put him in the football hold and he latched great after just 2-3 tries. Had a textbook "perfect" feeding. Well after she left and so far today I can't get him to get a good latch. He's getting so mad at me and pulling back like he's got too much breast in his mouth. Of course he didn't do this when lac con was here!

I need help, any advice? Anyone have a similair problem that hey were able to fix?? I can't afford to have the lac con come back out. I should mention he's almost 9 weeks old, is he too old to fix trhis problem??

Thanks!

I wish I could help, I'm in the same boat. i'm going to surf the challenges section on this topic. My LO is 8 weeks, a nipple feeder. doesn't open wide and he keeps his lower lip wrapped around his gums so it's really tough to get breast in there deep. Going to la leche league meeting this week, hoping some of the moms there can give some advice. Good luck. Take care.

The things I found helped ds get a deeper latch were:
-football hold (I just had better control in that position)
-using the sandwich hold. Hold your breast so it is sort of squished like you would a sandwich/hamburger so that it is "flat" in the same direction of their lips (my, I don't think I'm explaining that very well)
-aiming my nipple at the top of his mouth not for the middle. I will literally run my nipple down his top lip & into his mouth.

I hope you can find a solution that works for you soon.
