Need Help ASAP for friend in Oklahoma

Hi, I just talked to my friend in OK, she does partial vaxes. Her daughter is almost 4 and is going to a daycare in a small town. Up until now, she has used the personal exemption form with no problem. However, about a week ago, a little girl in the daycare got meningitis and is hospitalized in a coma. So now the daycare lady is freaking out and said that my friend's daughter cannot come back until she is fully immunized. Can she do this? I thought she could since she is not a "public" daycare, just a home daycare.

Also, what options does my friend have? There are other daycares, but not ones that my friend feels comfortable leaving her daughter at. Is there anyway to convince daycare lady that not having all vaxes is a horrible thing? Mostly she just doesn't want to get the MMR, chicken pox and some others, I'm not totally sure.

Any advice? I really don't know how to help because it seems that her only options are quit her job (which she can't do), get all the vaxes (which she doesn't want to do), or send her daughter to a not-good daycare. HELP!

What if you friend showed the daycare owner that the cause of the other daycare child's meningitis was not vaccine preventable? In other words, it was not caused by HiB or on of the 7 strains in Prevnar. Therefore, being up to date on vaccines would not reduce the chance of catching it.

I agree with previous poster.. find out exactly what kind meningitis this child has. If it is viral, there is NO vaccine that will help prevent this.. If it is bacterial, find out what kind of bacteria. It is possible that no vaccine will help there too.

Your best bet is probably to educate this day care lady worker. She is obviously uneducated when it comes to this issue. She wrongly believes an unvaccinated child will bring something bad to the daycare (or perhaps she believes an unvaccinated child will catch something bad from the daycare?) Actually probably what is happening now that I think about it more, is she is suddenly afraid for her business, if another child comes down with something that she might be targeted as having an "unsafe" daycare and lose her license. That may or may not be true, I'm simply giving an opinion on what might be going through her head at this time, since she was obviously OK with non vaxed children in the past.

Was the child with meningitis vaxed? Did she have another disease that led to meningitis or what was her health status before?

What is so bad about the other daycare> Those are some hard choices, but I would say if it wasn't life or death risks in the other daycare, to go there instead.

This is basically what is going on. She doesn't blame the meningitis on my friend's daughter, she is just freaked about diseases in general now. I want to help my friend try to educate her, but there is so much info out there. Does anyone know of some concise info, particularly about the mmr that could maybe ease some fears of the daycare woman? TIA.
