frustrating doc appt

I'm so shocked that I've actually encountered a doc that told me that the health benefits of breastfeeding beyond 6 months are questionable. She stated that no study has definitively shown that there are any added benefits to breastfeeding beyond 6 months and strongly recommended I quit at 6 months.

Granted, I understand her reasoning for wanting me to quit (I have osteopenia and she's concerned about the loss of bone mass while lactating). But to actually believe there's no health benefits to the baby after 6 months seems absurd to me!

FWIW, I don't intend to stop breastfeeding at 6 months.

How about the benefits to you? A diet can be calcium enriched w/bone broths and other traditional foods that a modern MD won't even think of, but does she have any suggestions for reducing your risk of premenopausal breast cancer?

Time for a new doc!
