DIY Teething Bling necklace?

Thread Starter
I love the SmartMom Teething Bling necklaces, but they seem a little $$$. My bead store sells donut pendants made from actual semi-precious stone (obsidian etc.) and I was thinking about trying to DIY one. Should be easy. Do you think my DD would like to chew on the hard stone, though, and is it safe, or would the silicone of the SmartMom necklaces be nicer for her?

Maybe if you asked over in the family safety area someone might know?

I have one (had one, where is it???) its not hard at all, it like silicone, like rubbery. So that would be the big difference. I dunno about chewing on stone as far as enjoying it as a baby ya know?

I've chipped stone (particularly malachite) before, and it's brittle enough that I wouldn't be comfortable buying one with the intention of baby mouthing it.

I googled and obsidian is glass made from lava. So,I don't know if that makes any difference or not for you but I just thought I'd put it out there.

I saw a DIY kit on Etsy .... these are stone, not silicone.

hmm...i do have the smart ones, and ds loves them, but i'm not sure iw ould feel safe with a stone from the craft store. who know what has been put on it chemical-wise. i think smart mom usually has one color half off each month. i got mine for 9.95 in aug...its the dark green color
